Most likely Middle Eastern (many look mulatto). But His ancestors were captive to the Egyptians who were probably still black. His family also escaped to Egypt from Herod. How did they fit in? Being a carpenter's son meant being out in the hot desert sun. And this was long before Jews began to mingle with Europeans. Also there are Madonna statues with the baby 'Jesus' held sacred all over Europe. These statues are black. Some have had the paint literally kissed off of them.
I've also seen a coin from a British museum with a depiction of a Roman emperor Justinian on the front and obviously Caucasian. The man on the other side was carrying a scroll, had a cross behind him, and had a curly fro. Many Israeli Jews still have fros. These are African attributes. He also spoke Afro-Semitic. So, who knows?
I do know that He shed His red blood for the sins of all mankind regardless of our color.

Jesus was a Jew and as such would have looked like any other Jewish man who was living in the Middle East. Dark hair, swarthy skin, and brown or blue eyes.

Most probably he looked like the Palestinians, as he lived in Palestine!
It feels funny to see all these drawings of Jesus and the Virgin as white skinned, blue eyed!! These painters didn't have a clue!

Somewhere in between, but closer to white than black. Like you said, it doesn't really matter.
God bless.

He was a Semitic Jew. He spent a lot of time outside travelling by foot. He was probably dark brown.
