I'm not afraid of one type of breed. I have never met a vicious dobermann and I love the breed. The rottweilers I've met have been fine, and pit bulls are illegal so I've never met one. I've met nearly every breed of dog in this country (being a dog lover) including all the bull and guarding breeds, like A. bulldogs, the above said breeds, mastiffs, etc etc and none have given me any reason to be frightened of them.
Some individual dogs have scared me on occassion though and those include: various border collies, german shepherds, bullmastiff (only once due to lack of training/ socialising), and various vicious terriers.
Oh, and a greyhound..! It attacked a cat which I then had to rescue, and got injured myself. As Nancy M above said- a cat can do a lot more damage than you'd believe. When they're really mad....or when a greyhound has its teeth in it's other end.

Obviously, the bigger the dog the more damage it can do. Chows do not have a good reputation and certainly breeds such as the Akito are potentially very dangerous indeed. There is no need for a dog such as the Akito ever to be a pet. Weimaraners can be nervy so are best avoided and Rottweillers are not to be trusted with anyone apart from their owner. Dobermans are mainly sweet natured and affectionate. I have one but I have to say that someone I know who has always had Dobermans said that she would not trust them if she was not present. My boy is as daft as a brush and anecdotal evidence that I have gained from Dobie lovers supports this. They are tremendously loyal but not particularly aggressive unless trained to be so. They are territorial as are all dogs.
The dogs most likely to bit are the smaller breeds. I once had a wire haired fox terrier - nightmare. The worst of the lot are Jack Russells. Bull terriers, such as Staffies are extremely bad news with other dogs but incredibly soft and daft with humans. It all depends how any of these dogs are brought up.
Treat them like a child and as one of the family and you should never have a dog that will attack just for the sake of it.

It wouldn't be a particular breed but a particular temperament type -- those that are simply crazy and have no real control over themselves. I have dogs that can attack and have had dogs that can attack but they have always been well under control even during the attack - no real maliciousness in the attack and just 'doing my job' sort of attitude -- the times I have been or seen the results of berserk types of attacks from just wholy unstable dogs lashing out at a person due to fear/terror or uncontrolled viciousness/rage, those dogs, regardless of breed, are the scariest and do the most damage. Biting and holding may crush a bone and tear up an arm or leg but a dog that is slashing and crunching on you in wild abandon, that is bad... one of the worst traumas I had come into an ER was a lady that came in via ambulance after her CAT attacked her -- she was shredded head to toe -- had chunks out of her -- I was surprised she didn't lose one or both of her eyes as there were bites on her eye lids, her scalp was fileted, there were bites and deep scratches, I don't mean like little scratches but like ripped open to the bone scratches, all over her body, even the bottoms of her feet and her back... obviously we started her on the rabies series and several family members that had been scratched earlier in the week but she had defensive wounds all on her forearms and said she had fought him off and gotten the bathroom door closed -- she was bleeding badly and she finally didn't hear him at the door any longer so she cracked it to look out and he actually hit the door hard enough to push her back and gain entry and was attacking her again - she was able to get out of the bathroom closing him in it and call 911 -- if you have any animal that is totally oblivious and crazed out of panic, vicious rage or whatever, it doesn't matter how big or small it will do serious damage... I am not terrified of any breed of dog; I am terrified of unstable, out of control berserko animals....

The only encounter Ive ever had with a vicious dog was when I used to deliver pizzas and a pack of 4 strays surrounded me. They all looked like they were chow/german shep/lab mixes and I was scared out of my mind. They surrounded me before I could get to me car and when every I would move even slightly or try to yell for help the leader would put his mouth right by my leg and snarl, bark or chomp (not on me, just enough to make a noise and where I could feel the breath from his mouth). It felt like forever that I stood there frozen looking at the ground before some one came out with a broom and whaped the leader over the head and they all ran off.

I dont think its the breed. Even a small dog can do a lot of harm if it wants. Its the personality, training (or lack there of) and how many friends he has with him or how brave he thinks he is.

Statistically a vet is more likely to be bitten by a border collie or a german shepherd than anything else. But as for 'attacking' (ie mauling) I don't know. Pit bulls classically but they are no longer legal in the uk. The Presario Canario is probably top of my list as it's not yet on the dangerous dogs list, despite having several recent savaging attacks. Fortunately there aren't many around, but they are on the increase.

Any dog!
I almost got attacked by a Staffie last night as it went for my dalmatian in the middle of the street, completely unprovoked, and as I tried to shoo it and stamped my foot at it it turned on me!
Normally though, I'd say, the bigger and more powerful the dog, the worse the bites gonna be. I'm not gonna argue with an Irish Wolfhound!

i,m not fightened of any dog except when it is showing signs of being very aggresive. ie running at me with a general gnashing of teeth and snapping and hair standing on end.No dog behaving "normally "would frighten me.I have a large cross breed dog and people are terrified of it. They cross the road to avoid it and jump if it looks at them . It is a big softie(scared of cats)

Pitt Bull, Rottweiler

I suppose the larger the breed the more scary it would be with the exception of the bull dog breeds! Some of them are fearless and they tear rather than bite. Staffies lock their jaws and don't let go!
In nearly 60 years though I've only been attacked once and that was by a Labrador!!!!! (Not mine I hasten to add)

Rottweiler, Staffy, Pit Bull, Doberman, German Shepard, Jack Russel and Westie (the latter 2 I have been bitten by before) And I've had a pack of greyhounds set on me before as well, not nice.
