I often get a cramp or something similar in my right hand while I am playing my drum set. This doesn't happen when I play the quads in marching band. I've been drumming for about six years and have played the set for 2 years. Does anyone know what could cause this and what I can do to prevent them?

Exercises specifically for those sets of muscles might help (like a stress squeezee ball). You might want to see what the difference is between your grips when playing one and the other and try to modify your grip slightly. You might want to watch your water intake -- being slightly dehydrated can cause cramping in the extremities, particularly if you are stressing them.

if you aren't warming up properly before you start playing that would cause the cramping. also make sure that you are maintaining proper grip while playing.
