I believe that people who seek to discredit science to bolster their own faith are both weak in faith and in science.

Edward J:

Is Jonathan Wells' book intellectually or otherwise honest? Why would you 'edit' science in schools?

EDIT: EdwardJ, yes I agree that we should only allow real science that has been rigorously peer reviewed and grounded in correct scientific methodology. How does Jonathan Wells fit into this?

I think there is allot of good and valid science however science itself can be used to promote the biases of many worldviews which is why it needs to be corrected whenever it is wrong. It should be about being truthful and unfortunately there is enough cases historically to show that some have willingly promoted false claims in order to promote their own worldview. If in doubt read the book Icons of evolution by Jonathan Wells. This book is now used in a number of states to help edit what is allowed into the science curriculum in high schools. EDIT: Jonathan Wells was criticiized by Eugenie Scott the executive director for the nartional centre for scienc education criticised Jonathan Wells book although she admitted it was technically correct. Science books need to be edited when they contain information that has been proven false or is simply misleading. Whats wrong with that? Hoepfully we all want children to be taught truth without bias in science. That's what we pay for.http://www.discovery.org/a/1180 RE EDIT: There are ID scientists who are peer reviewed but they will not be allowed into the school classroom because it wold offend those who hold a different worldview and they would stir up a comotion and try and suggest that they are tryng to teach young earth creationism. Here are some names of peer reviewed ID scientists http://www.discovery.org/scripts/viewDB/index.php?command=view&id=2640 and http://www.evolutionnews.org/2006/12/intelligent_design_research_la.html I should add that Law professor Phillip Johnson who has written a number of books critical of evolutionary theory has debated a number of people in Universities and the panel of fact checkers pronounced him to be 99% accurate.

Even worse than trying to discredit science are those who lie about science in order to bolster their position. Every time I come here there is someone with absolutely no knowledge of molecular genetics saying that DNA proves creation or intelligent design, when the actual evidence from genetic research is just the opposite.

People who do this have never opened their mind to science. To do so would mean they would have to question their own beliefs.
I think evangelicals are the best at this. They refuse all evidence that science has to provide. Funny they should depend on science when they get sick or in other ways while trying to discredit it.

Science is great to explain the ways of God. Many of the theories of science explain how God does many things. Thats why there are so many Christian Scientists

Psychology is a scientific discipline and it's with psychology that we'll explain humanities attraction to the absurd. Sigmund Freud already made a stab at it and eventually concluded that it was a neurotic symptom.

It is mostly just the fundamentalists who try to discredit science that offers explanations contradictory to their religious views. It is very weak of their character, but not all theists do this.

I have no problem with science in it's purist form. Science is supposed to objectively find out the truth. But it seems that scientist aren't doing that now. They are bringing their own predispositions to the table and trying to prove them i.e. evolution.

Exactly, anyone who claims that scientists say we evolved from monkeys is purposely lying to bolster a weak position, or grossly undereducated.

Nope, I don't waste my time discrediting things I'm not qualified to discuss intelligently. My religion would have to have a weak foundation indeed if it could be shaken by objective fact.
