Which part of God's word do you mean? The Bible says that we ought to stone to death adulterers and those who work on the Sabbath. It also says that we should love our enemies and do good to those who persecute or wrongfully mistreat us.
The Bible says that "You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes." (2 Samuel 22:41), and it also says that we should forgive those who wrong us - not just 7 times, but 70 x 7 times.
The difficulty in being obedient to God's word is that it can't all be taken literally or else we'd end up with some very contradictory instructions on how to live.

Because the are hypocrits & use so called gods word as they see fit. It's not only most people but the church too.
We live in a world where children have more power than their parents. "Go ahead and spank me, I'll call the cops". And Christians today feel that spanking is wrong, it's this whole "time out" thing... ugh. Well, the Bible tells a little bit different story on how to handle your children. Check this out.
Exodus 21:15, 17 both say that if a child hits or curses his father, he is to be killed.
Leviticus 20:9 says that if a child curses his mother or father he is to be put to death.
Deuteronomy 21:18-21 requires stoning to death any child who is stubborn or rebellious.
Proverbs 22:15 says you should beat your foolish children with a rod.
Why not follow these words of god. After all they are the words of god and must be followed no matter what.

Christians aren't perfect & dont claim to be.The world expects them to be perfect. Obedience is not easy because there is a whole world of temptations around you telling you sin is fun. You can choose to be obedient, but it doesn't mean you will never miss the "mark". Thats why God gives us mercy and forgives us when we admit we have sinned. He judges our hearts. He knows when we are truly trying to be obedient.Thats not for anyone to judge but Him.

First, I don't think you can say 'most', because a great many genuinely try to be Christians.
Second, those who say they are but spread hatred, division, lies, and intolerance are already known by their fruits, so it isn't hard to dismiss them.

Even Christians fall short, thats why Christ did what he did. The atonement allows for repentance because we will all fall short.
