Stop illegal immigration at the source?

First of all, the minimum wage in this country needs to be based on what a FATHER needs to support his wife and children. Our children don't need to be pushed into daycare 9 hours a day cuz mom has to pay the bills cuz the greedy of this country think that you can support a family on 200 bucks a week. That being said, illegals will keep coming as long as there is work for them. The INS should devote manpower to visiting all jobs that are stereotyped for using slave-i mean illegal-labor. If even one illegal is found, serious fines. Second strike, we should break the business's back, put them out of business. If we go after the greedy bosses who would rather pay an illegal 6 bucks an hour than pay an American 20 and hour, illegals won't have a reason to come. We must terrify the bosses out of hiring these leeches AND make a REAL border. Fifty years ago, a man could earn a living in construction or another HONEST trade. Would shutting bosses down help?

ANYONE HERE LOST WORK OR MONEY TO AN ILLEGAL? Love to hear about it! Speak up! And WHY won't our president shut the borders, after all, terrorists can sneak across too, not only is the economy suffering, it is a security threat!

I don't know where you're from David, but here in Jersey, LOADS of people are struggling the way I have described. Especially in my neighborhood. I KNOW many of these people personally. Why should you have to chose between feeding your kids and raising them yourself? And have you ever checked the net profits for McDonalds? If the top executives would cut their GARGANTUAN salaries just a little, they could pay employees even a little more without forcing you to pay more for a Big Mac. If they think they can't get by on a smaller salary, how can they expect their employers to survive on a teenager's wage?

B.Kevork, I should clarify. Not for removing women, just bringing back the choice for working class women (or dads!) to be able to stay home again and raise their own children. I wasn't clear, I apologize

The idea that a large population in the US is supporting families on minimum wage is completely without merit. It is simply not the case. As the minimum wage increases entry level jobs go away. If you raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour McDonald's will either close or charge $10 for a Big Mac.

How many actual families do you know that are being supported by a minimum wage job? Your argument about bosses wanting to pay $6 an hour instead of $20 files in the face of your minimum wage argument.

Raising the minimum wage and removing women from the workforce (apealing as the former might be to liberals, and the latter to reactionaries) would actually greatly /increase/ the demand for illegals, since you'd have a smaller workforce, and illegals, by thier very nature, are in a black market where labor-protection laws, like minimum wage, do not aply.

Asside from that, you've got it about right. The 'jobs magnet' is the biggest factor, and the one that can be most pracitcally addressed. It doesn't even require making /all/ employees prove all thier workers are legal. It just requires enough raids, and confiscatory enough fines that employers are /afraid/ to hire illegals.

Most all the furniture industries in N. Mississippi hire illegals, around 60-70% at last count per factory, while the unemployment office is full of Americans looking for work. Odd though when INS shows up no illegals can be found.
I Actually failed an interview at Goodyear, last question was "Do you speak fluent spanish". When did you have to know a another language to fix a car?

I agree with everything except the minimum wage part. No one should expect to raise a family if their only skill is asking, "would you like fries with that"?

The reasons both parents must work now is because of (1) the Women's movement that told women they were oppressed if they stayed at home to raise their children; eventually so many households had two income earners that it caused inflation to such a degree that people no longer had much choice but to have two income earners. And (2) the much higher tax burden as compared to the 1950's.

The illegals have depressed wages and taken over many industries that used to belong to legal citizens. They have also contributed greatly to the increased tax burden mentioned above.

Cut off their jobs and they will self deport.

I agree, minimum wage is ridiculous. And parents can barely make it on 2 incomes with support like food stamps and medical from the government. I also think that native born americans who are of hispanic decent are treated unfairly. My fiance is American. His dad is American, his grandmother and grandfather were Mexican. And because my fiance has a Mexican ancestry he is not paid a decent wage either. And he is 1/2 white and has a white last and first name. I can walk into a company with his skills and make a great amount of money, he is treated like the illegals because his skin is brown and he speaks fluent spanish. I think America needs to get its head out of its a ss, treat Americans of all shades equally and crack down on illegal immegration.

So, if I appreciate you, now we aren't handiest meant to retain to help the illegals already within the nation, however we also are meant to rebuild their international locations? By the way in which, we helped rebuild Japan when you consider that we blew the crap out of them with two atomic bombs in an effort to finish a warfare. Should we do this to Poland and Mexico as good?

I agree with all that you have said. We need to cut it off at the source. Business's should be fined for hiring illegals. If we didnt make it sooo frickin' easy for them,( FREE benefits of every kind) they would vanish and not want to come here. Not to mention how VERY unsafe it is for the American public to have that many of them here. Just the Home Depot attacks lately have been hideous. Watch them on You Tube and you'll see what Im talking about. Also check out LAPD's 10 most wanted list....Illegal Aliens-All of them.

I don't think fines will work. Corporations pay billions in fines daily and don't care. My plan is to start putting the CEO in prison. Five years for each illegal, no pardons, no early release possible. No cop/Paris Hilton prison, a real prison in general population. I bet after the first 20 were sent to prison and reported how much they enjoyed being raped there wouldn't be a job available anywhere in the US without citizenship papers .

Stop it at its source? Then that would be the U.S. Government that fails to enforce the laws, then the Corporations that hire, harbor and help them, and then the churches for providing sanctuary and assistance, and then the law-abiding citizens of the USA who fail to demand that their laws be enforced and who fail to vote in our elections and who fail to report the criminals. If we stop it at its source and if we, the people, start right now and report every illegal immigrant and refuse to hire, harbor or help them, there will be nothing here for them.
