I've been in a long distance relationship for 4 years now. We met in person though, we met at 16 and were together for about 9 months before he had to move back. He is in Germany and i'm in California (USA). So far so good, we are happy and plan on getting engaged/married sometime in the future.

I had a long distance relationship that ended up in me coming to Colorado and we lived together for 2 years. We did break up, but we remain good friends. The reason we broke up was due to the fact that our lives were going in two different directions, and yeah sometimes that happens but that's life. I will say though that at first it was really hard. I talked to her as much as I could, and ended up running a 400 dollar a month phone bill. So yeah, if you want to make it work you have to treat it like that person is actually there, even though they are far away. That way you will be faithful and honor what you two have. I am not saying that you wont get sad at times, but he has to understand that you need to talk as much as possible, and if possible have set times every night that you talk, that way you get the time you both need with one another. Hope this helps.

I know someone whose relationship was long distance for quite a few years, flying back and forth to see each other, and they've been married for four and a half years.

I also know someone who was in a long distance relationship for a year and a half (although they've known each other for over ten years) and, when they moved in together, she was completely miserable to the point that she moved away. They tried to keep it alive long distance again, but they knew it would never work out, and now it's over.

Person #1 would risk it again in a heartbeat; person #2 says, "I'll never do that again, ever."

Sometimes, it works; sometimes, it doesn't. But either way, it's very difficult.

I have had a somewhat successful long distance relationship, but not soley online. I dated the person for 5 years, and in the 4th year of our relationship we moved closer together. It turns out, we weren't as compatible as we thought. Since it was a long distance relationship, we didn't know each other like we would have in a regular relationship. It turned out to be a waste of time.

Met on myspace... travelled 300 miles just about every weekend to spend time together... I ended up moving in with him 3 months ago. We aren't married, but who knows?

All long-distance relationships are doomed. There are millions of fish in the sea and some swim near you.
