There was no hesitation from the French and British Communities with regards volunteering to serve against Germany in WW2, in fact Canadian Recruiting Offices could not handle the amount who wanted to join, they had not got enough uniforms, weapons or equipment.
Having managed to get to the United Kingdom by ship
the Canadians were kicking their heels by being used as part of the Defence Force for the U.K.
When the chance came to take part in the ill-planned and ill-fated raid on Dieppe in France, they jumped at a chance for action, after hitting the beaches within 12 hours over 3,000 Canadians were dead, wounded, captured.
But great lessons were learned from their hugh uncomplaining sacrifice and put into effect for the D-Day landings.

I do not believe that Canada was overly enthusiastic about participation, however as a member of the commonwealth, in many respects it is the obligation of Canada to come to the aid of Britain when they are attacked or threatened.

Which one? WWII? She is a big part of the British Commonwealth (now just Commonwealth) so she fought on the side of her 'family', the UK et al.
Canada is a Country that believes in helping people, she is a liberal Country much like the UK.
