They call it "The War on Drugs". Lou Dobbs (CNN) calls it the "Culture War" with this flood of illegal immigration into the U.S., stressing our society, hospitals, schools, tax dollars, and allowing so much infiltration of crime to take hold. If you've never lived in this area and haven't seen it for yourself and how the drug lords and even corrupt Mexican military are escalating with so many guns and armored vehicles, don't say this isn't a war and that's just an over-used word. Soldiers returning from active duty overseas will report what they have seen happen to countries over-run by illegals from neighboring territories, and how the active mining of borderlands is common practice. Some suggest we do the same within the immediate area of the border fence being built with Mexico. Do you think that would be an effective deterrant to help stop this flood which has yet to be dammed? Or would that be so cruel as to be un-American/inhumane? Maybe you don't think this is a real war?

Well, while I hestitate to agree to flying body parts, I do agree that something must be done now. The only reason Bush hasn't stopped this is because the special interest groups who he panders to are in love with cheap labor. The average wage in many working trades (esp. construction) has fallen dramatically because these people are willing to work for peanuts and do not give a damn about what they are doing to our economy. And most of them send the money to their country, removing it from our economy! Also, if Mexican cooks can sneak in, how long before terrorists use those same routes? Something must be done. I am sure my family, also in construction, would be grateful if our president represented US rather than some illegal.

Gerry, we take in more immigrants than any other country in the world. Those who live below the poverty line live much better than they would in their 3rd world countries. Why do you think they want to come here?

We are one of the worst countries when it comes to the issue of poverty? Why don't you come experience America. We are not coddled like your tiny island, or the puny countries of Europe, who's governments hand out free health care and housing for their citizens. We actually have a work ethic. Lots of you sit around on the dole, drinking yourself sick in pubs.

As for helping you whenever you were in trouble, and now getting this attitude, makes you ingrates. Here's a news flash: France, after their disgusting attitude towards the US, has now turned around and has said to the US, we have a big problem with these immigrants coming in, and we need help with resources. Sorry, France has a problem. No, they can use their own resources from now on, and so can you. That came from the US. Guess you are on your own.

Get some perspective before you spout off about the US.

I don't know what the legal status is, but te Constitution of The United States demands that I, as an AMERICAN CITIZEN, protect this country from all INVADERS, both foreign and domestic. It also says that we have the right to form an orginized militia and to bear arms.

So, by my interpetition, we should LEGALLY be able to hunt down ILLEGALL INVADERS and protect our country.

Might want to consult an Attorney on this one though.

As long as the mines are our on our side, and the mindefields are fenced off to protect wildlife, and bear warning signs (english on the US side, spanish on the Mexican), to protect people, I suppose we could do it.

It seems a little extreme though. We could try, I don't know, actually enforcing our laws, first.

Of course it is a war..walls, minutemen, talking and talking and talking about the problem is not working....Mexican citizens are not listening nor do they care...it will come to blows somewhere, somehow...we are no longer on the outside looking in...it is right here in our faces everyday.

With all the technology we have today, you'd think there would be a way to put land mines down and blow up some chunks of flesh (if walked upon by surprise) and ALSO have a way to deactivate them when needed. If they can make them deactivate, I say put 4 inches apart!! I'll even go down there and help bury them!

I bet you after ONE or two are set off, they'll learn.

The problem with landmines is that they are indiscriminate killers that stay buried in the ground for many years. One day, a kid is playing and steps in the wrong place.

Landmines are used all over the world. However, they are also a problem all over the world. Wars end and borders move but the landmines stay where they are at. Many countries are dealing with the problem of landmines planted decades earlier and forgotten. Landmines are not a viable solution. They will just bring more problems later on.

It's a lost cause. The government refuses to protect us. They refuse to enforce existing laws. You just have to keep moving away from the crime until there is no where else to go. Just arm yourselves and do not become victims. Once the U.S. and Mexico have completed their merge, we will ALL adjust to the new culture and move forward. What else can we do?
