I am constantly getting spontaneous nosebleeds during the night. Usually once per night, between the times of 1 AM to 4 AM, while I'm asleep.

Needless to say, this wakes me up, and really wrecks my sleeping schedule.

It's almost always just my left nostril that bleeds; rarely do both nostrils bleed.

What possibly could be the problem, and what can I do to cure this very annoying, and embarrassing problem?

Thanks.

And no, I don't do any drugs or anything like that. That's just dumb.

I've had this problem. I got some Vitamin K-2 (must be K-2 not any other other K) and take a low dose and the nosebleeds have basically stopped. A very low dose (get at the health food store) is safe, and if you try it and it works, you are probably deficient in K-2. If it doesn't work, go to the doctor as there may be something else going on.

It may be that your blood vessels in your nose are very senstive and bleed very easy, also it may be the cold weather. Here are some things you can try for your nose bleeds. 1. Check the humidity in your house, and increase it to the normal range. Keep the heat low (60-64 degrees) in your bedroom. 2. Keep nostrils moist, take a shower and breathe deeply to get the moisture into your nose. Then put petroleum jelly on the inside of the nose to keep it moist. A saline solution will also help to. 3. Daily consumption of cirtus fruit can help elimnate recurring nose bleed. The bioflavonoids a class of antixidants) found in the fruit, seem to help with the prevention. Bioflavonoids help strenghten the blood vessels whick makes it less easy to rupture. Take 500mg of bioflavoniods twice a day if you do not eat several servings of fruit daily. 4. Avoid foods that may give you a severe allergic reaction, such as milk and wheat. 5. Putting a few drops of castor oil, vitamin E or zinc oxide in your nose each day will prevent recurring nosebleeds. 6. Use an ice pack on the nose. Cold causes blood vessels to constrict, reducing blood flow, swelling and inflammation. 7. After your nosebleed has stopped, use a cotton swab to apply an antiobiotic ointment to the inside of your nose. This will kill bacteria and keep your nose moist. Reapply several times, especially before bedtime for several days. 8. If the nosebleed does not stop head to the hospital to get it cotterized. Cotterized well help you stop nose bleeds. Hope this helps & good luck!

Is it cold where you are, and you're running up the heat? Yep, 'tis the season for dried out nasal membranes.

You might want to start with ointments. Bacitracin, A and D Ointment, Eucerin, Polysporin, and Vaseline are all over-the-counter ointments which can be applied in SMALL amounts (like the size of a small pea)...if you're getting dried out, cracked nasal membranes at night, that should hook you up.

For some perpetual nosebleeders, cauterization is used as a treatment. Seriously. Talk to your doctor.

What Rob says about cauterization is true - I've heard about someone having that treatment, which was very effective.
I think that nosebleeds can happen if you have high blood pressure.

I had the same problem for many years...I finally wen to the doctor and he cauterized it every six weeks for almost a year...it hurts for a few minutes while they are doing it...but it worked.
My nose used to bleed anywhere and everywhere...work, school, all through a final exam once.
Cauterizing it actually burns and seals the open blood vesels.
That was years ago and I very rarely +get a nose bleed now.

I had this problem a few years ago -- dry air was the culprit. I started using "Ocean" saline nasal spray. It's just salt water. Worked like a charm.

Check out the info on any prescriptions you may be taking, too. It might be a side effect.

i used to suffer like you. Its mainly to do with the tempreatuer outside and the tempreatuer of your body. Try and stay cool of its hot, or warm if its cold. U havent said how old you are, but its common in females more and tenngagers. If you have bannged ypur nose recently, it may just need time to heal. If its not heavily bleeding and stops after a minute or so. Its probally nothink to worry about but still worth been checked out.
