It works in several ways.

Sometimes when we have a sensation that we assume is hunger, it can, instead, be thirst. Reaching for water, instead of food, then reduces a potential caloric input.

Sometimes we could drink water instead--instead of drinks with a higher caloric input like soft drinks, fruit juices, and such. Even drinks like coffee and tea, whether you 'doctor them up' with sugar or cream, real or substitute, have actions that take place in your body beyond mere hydration or supplementing the satiation sense by consuming a fluid. Some things are diuretic, as in stimulating the body to dump water. By itself, that is not necessarily a problem, per se, but it can be a complication. Suppose you had a balance one day from caloric input and calories burned, several cups of coffee or tea could have you dumping water in urination and it tipped the scale to show a weight decline that was essentially false. You didn't lose body fat, just water.

Finally, water assists the digestive processes all over. It helps the foods flush their way through the gut. It helps in digestion, soluable fats, fibers, etc. need it to carry things through the intestinal walls to be transported to the liver and such places as need it for fuel and tissue building. It keeps the blood and other fluids fluid or "runny," so they work their way around our circulatory plumbing.

Water, in short, helps other parts do what they do.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

For one, it keeps one from drinking other unneccessary fluids. It does give a slight bump in metabolism to drink 8 glasses on a daily basis. It keeps you hydrated and allows food to be processed throughout the body quicker and easier. Researchers also believe that it burns a few more calories daily.
