I wouldn't say brainwashed. In order to be brainwashed, they would have to know something different first.
I wouldn't say simple minded either. Some religious people are very smart.
I would say that some people are just gullible. They will believe whatever they are told, especially when it comes from their parents, grandparents, etc, and when its in writing (the Bible).

That is a good question.
But how do you know how was the people 2000 years ago?
That is your religion.
maybe you have heard it in school, or did read from a book, etc. and you believe it?!
Unbelievable how easily you can manipulate.
then you also have a brainwashing.
You take the easy way for you?
And you think to be on the safer away?
Yes, than you are already lost!
Religion is much more than that, not religion does wars, but people like you and me.
Should I really say this to you? No!
You know itself, didn't you?
Think ... It has to do with peace.
Ciao

About your statement being: what has cured more people, science or religion...well first of all if you take a course in neuropsychology you will realize that there is a very strong correlation between being religious and recovering from an illness such as cancer (that has been scientifically proven). Also, who do you think developed the resources for scientists to create medicine...God. God created the world and thus He created the means of healing people. So the answer to your question is God.

Funny that you said that because 2000 years ago, just like an atheist living today, most people who lived back than generally did not believe that Jesus Christ was Lord and Savior. In fact, Christianity was not even recognized by the Roman Empire until the Edict of Milan did so in 313 AD.
I guess that you can say that "The people back than were brainwashed and simple minded" because, just like an atheist, most did not believe that Jesus Christ was Lord and Savior, either.

I would say its kind of a bit of both.
But more in a way of the way that individual nurtured. My mum is pretty religious, and as you look at her parents they too are a bit more religious. I'm not that religious. I would go to church every week as a child, but now I will go on occassions. Being a student of philosophy I feel free to constantly question things.
Others dont think like me though. Most havent got degrees in philosophy! If a person has never took the time to step back, and look at what theyre believing in, then I would say theyre pretty "brain washhed" as you say. If they step back, evaluate and continue to believe what they believe you have to give them more credit than saying theyre brain washed. They have faith in the face of some problems and things they have questioned. Like wise if they decide its not for them.
I would say faith is an evaluatation of what they believe. If they've not even took the chance to evaluate it then I would say brainwashed.
Just to say too, Science ISN'T proof. It's validity.

Simple minded! *lol* A thousand years from now, if the planet is still here, which I seriously doubt, do you want people to call you simple minded?
People are people. Technology and science may progress, but the word of God has been the same yesterday, today, and it will stand forever. Those who knew it then were wise, as are those who know it now.

Combination of both, I think, although it depends exactly what you mean by 'religious'.
Certainly I think it requires either a wilful ignorance or a very simple mind to accept the events of the bible as true, and the bible god as admirable! But I know from personal experience how the elders of a fundamental sect can brow-beat people into a mindset where they cut themselves off from logic and reason as being 'corrupting influences', and avoid secular education and sources of information.

Some are brain washed, some are simple minded and some are highly intelligent. I'm an agnostic so don't go gunning for me but I do know some of each category.

"Jews had sturdy lives in Arab worldwide places till Zionists got here alongside and blew up Synagogues in Iraq, Algeria, Morocco and so on. to lead them to come to Palestine." properly, yeah. in case you call being killed, overwhelmed, arrested for no reason, finished without trial, and so on., a "sturdy life", then that they had sturdy lives. "My ancestors orginated from Sicily, Italy, yet later moved to Palestine interior the eleventh century with the Crusades. i does not dare come approximately to a Sicilian's abode and kicking them off and telling them my kinfolk lived right here 2000 years in the past!" properly, they did no longer stay there 2000 years in the past! Oh, and submit to in suggestions, the Palestinians weren't "kicked off" their land and out of their properties....they LEFT VOLUNTARILY, by using fact the Arab worldwide places promised them citizenship. That the Arab worldwide places then refused to grant them citizenship isn't the accountability of the Israelis, nor of the individuals who rightfully offered the valuables they survive/hire out. You of course do no longer understand what you're conversing approximately.

Religion is a chance for people to be uniformed and united, and that help many people. I think that religion is something that brings both bad and good. And if people want to beleive that is fine. I strongly object to people imposing that belief on me. I do not feel the need to find "faith" in God. I do not have time for what I think is a made-up load of rubbish in my life! But many do, and need it, so good for them.
