I bought this bike for like 70 something bucks at Walmart more than a year ago. At first it was fine but then it started giving me headaches. Stuff started to get loose and no matter how many times I tightened it it started to fall apart again.I want to get a new one, but I don't want to spend too much money. What's a good bike that's not gonna cost me more than 200bucks?

$200 is pushing it a bit. Here is the models that I would look at:

Giant Rock SE
Specialized Rockhopper
Scott - Anything.
Claude Butler - Cape Wrath
Marin - Anything.
Trek - anything

Normally, you would look at paying between £350 and £500 for a reasonable starter bike, including the above. So you have to look at being a cheep skate. Now is not a good time to haggle, Xmas and all that. However, you might look at buying an older model (06 XTC, etc.). Your other option is an on line order site, but be careful. Chances are, even if it is assembled, it will not be set up (Pay your local bike shop). Second hand is another possibility. Again, look out for worn out parts.

The reason that I am sugesting this is that you get what you pay for. An older bike, with good components, is better than a new bike with tut (They tend to fall apart coming off of a slight pavement). Overall, I would recommend that you buy the best frame that you can afford, since you can always upgrade everything else. Also, do not try to get too much for the money. A hardtail, with reasonable, but not top end gears and Vbrakes, might serve you better than a full sus disc bike for the same money.

Luck

Unfortunately you aren’t going to get very far with $200. To put it in perspective you paid $70 for a mechanical contraption with several moving parts. Most people pay that for a pair of running shoes, and if you want the Jordan’s $150. If all you have to spend is $200 I would make friends with a bike mechanic and scour the local classifieds for a used bike. A used real bike from a bike shop in most cases will be better than a new department store bike. Just make sure it’s in good working order. I think you probably need at least $350 to go to a real bike shop.

Yeah Walmart bikes are crap!! You need to go to an actual bike shop and ask them. I have a Raleigh Mojave 2.0. It's a decent bike for a beginner or even intermediate. You wouldn't want to hammer to hard on it or do downhill but I've learned a lot on it and the only upgrades I've done is clipless pedals. I've had it for about 2 years and am about to upgrade. But look at Raleigh. They are good. Don't get a full suspension for less than a grand. Plus hardtails are a lot better if you aren't that good yet. Def go with a hardtail. Hope this helps bro. Peace.

A $70 bike is like buying a guitar without strings. Ever heard of EBAY? (www.ebay.com) Just surf 'em ---look for the Sporting goods category. There's a real bargain despite bidding possibilities---its either a brand new low-end bike or a used rig at your budget. ( don't get discouraged---choose a mint machine !) Make sure you buy your size and never shop at Walmart for their pathetic bikes there. EBAY's better!

You might want to think about a Diamondback Outlook. They sell for abot $220.

You will not find a true mountain bike for under, say, $600. Bikes that are lower than this are considered "all terrain bikes", or ATBs. They are intended for on road, and off road on groomed trails. Of course as you go up in price they become more aggressive and better suited for more technical terrain.

WHATEVER you buy, avoid full suspension bikes that sell under $800 to $1000, and at that price you'll get one that tends to be on the heavy side with very cheap parts... again, an ATB. A true full suspension MTB starts at about $1600.

Dont buy K-mart or any thing like that, they will fall to peices. if you want a reasonable bike get like a Giant Boulderdisc or some thing like that they are alot nicer to ride.
