My fiance and I are considering getting an African Gray parrot. He grew up with one, but it recently died of a heart attack/stroke as it was very overweight. Does anyone have any suggestions of good books to read? Or just suggestions in general? We do know of a very reputable breeder. But I just have experience with parakeets, and I didn't train them.

1. African Grey Parrots: Everything About History, Care, Nutrition, Handling, and Behavior (Complete Pet Owner's Manual) by Maggie Wright (Paperback - May 1, 2001)

2. African Parrots by Rick Jordan and Jean Pattison (Paperback - Dec 1999)
Jean "the African Queen" Pattison is a well-known and highly regarded breeder in FL. She has an ad in the back of Bird Talk magazine and a website.

Some excellent articles written by Pamela Clark and Jane Hallander are at http://www.parrothouse.com
I recommend all the articles, even about other parrot species.
