I think you are the plastic paddy! How dare you dictate who is Irish and who is not. I'm a third generation New Zealander with 7 of 8 great grandparents from Ireland. We have grown up with a strong Irish traditions and have had the history drummed into us. You are lucky to still be there my ancestors left because they would either have been killed by the English - IRA or were starving!!!! So go away with being proud of being Irish. Sounds to me like you don't know the meaning of being truely Irish.

I dont know if the question is really worded right why would a person be proud of a country... have respect for it fair enough show respect for the country where your parents are from.. I am sure no one would be ashamed to say what country they are from ..not every country is perfect anyone living in Ireland knows that they look at it from a political view tourist see a different Ireland where they are on holidays having fun meeting lots of new and yes friendly people I was in New york recently and found the people very friendly and helpful there....and no one has the right to tell people what it feels like to be part of another culture

i like being irish because of all the mountains and the seas! and we are an island standing alone! i like the way we our own language our own type of music and great food! out in conemara with all the lambs! podge and rodge are gas! i love the poem/song spancil hill!
but i guess there is no point arguing wherever youre from youre proud! youve always got that bond with it and will miss it if you leave!

i'm not proud to be irish, i'm proud to be me! who happens to be irish. anyway why should i be proud of a country that allows a foreign country to hitch a ride on the tail coat of its successes. nobel laureates for literature, art poetry physics movie making acting ect. funny how britain claims half our success just because james joyce may have took a dump in london.

you have no right to speak to lexie like that. she hs has much right to claim irish as you, and probably has a better sense of it.
you are delusional. the irish?? we let foreigners walk over us here.foriegn gangs extorting irish business?? why are you proud?? get over yourself. get real. we are the blacks of the world. everyone hates us. i have travelled all over the world. we are drunks, fighters , druggies and we have no respect for anyone. get that fact through your head. and the above person was right. new ireland me hole.
where the **** do you get off dictating who is irish and who isnt?? ya arrogant little ****!! i bet ya dont even speak irish.
we would be better off taking in diaspora from argentina and north america. the have more in common.
pathetic question.
btw im from the north west.

im Irish, always have been and always will be, im from Dublin and to be honest, im not proud to be Irish, im not embarrassed about it either, i dont see the point in being proud of where you were born, its not a personal accomplishment, its like being proud of having skin or being able to inhale by yourself!!
