Make sure they're neutered. That will fix it all.

First thing to ask is, have u neutered your two cats?

Unneuterred male cats can be very hostile towards the other feline and it's all due to their hormones...they feel a need to establish dominance over each other. As u said this only happenned when they turned 1, it's highly likely that it's their male hormones that have been making them very aggressive.

If they really are unneutered, pls consider neutering them before this ongoing fight results in a damaged relationship between the two cats and the introduction to more behavioural problems, eg urine spraying, furniture scratching and such.

If they are not fixed, this is what happens. Unfixed males get very aggressive, and they are fighting for alpha superiority.

If they are fixed, they are still in a dispute for who is alpha, but it usually never gets this vigorous. Growling and hissing, and chasing -- yes, but blood is not drawn, and fur is not usually torn out.

If this is happening and they are fixed, then a squirt with a water bottle to break it up should work. By doing that, you are asserting that you are alpha.

It does sound like they're fighting for territory. Please have them neutered if you haven't already. It's not that expensive to neuter a male cat compared to fixing a female. You could always consult a vet for advice on what to do.

If they are not neutered, that's probably why. Male cats can get territorial. Get them neutered if you haven't done so.

perhaps they are having a little power struggle, and each is trying to claim territory as their own... this might happen, especially if they are not neutered.

save the world from unwanted kittens -- have your pet altered.

cats will do this from time to time for dominance. they have to show who's boss. they may also be playing... my cats play rough some times.... biting and clawing....and lots of awful noises. it's life with cats... welcome to it!
