Why do I keep hearing about it being anti-Christian? I read a little about it in wikipedia and it seems like a fantasy type movie, which doesn't seem all that bad. Can someone explain what the fuss is all about?

Forgive me if I've missed a meeting on this. I just don't get it.

Written by an atheist, and if I spoil the plot, you're gonna be mad at me...

Edit: Okay, be mad at Trevor

in the end, the children kill a character named "God"

The movie itself its pretty washed clean of religion and is relatively not all that terrible the problem is the books are very anti-religious and pretty gruesome. The big deal about the movie is that parents see the movie think its a cute kids story let the children buy the books and then they get exposed to the intended message. God is bad and must be destroyed. In the book people that are religious are castrating children, ripping out their souls, and leaving them to die. All the while collecting these children's released energy from these tortures to take over the world. They are not kids stories but the movie will market them to be.

There was a great TV drama in the UK a couple of years ago called the "second coming". It was about (as the title suggests) the second coming of Jesus. It was set in present day in the North of England and the guy who found out he was Jesus was played by Christopher Eccleston (DR Who/ Heroes) In the end he found out that the new testament was that he had to kill himself, and by doing this he killed God and the the after life and heaven and everything. But because everyone realised that there wasn't a God anymore, the world was a better place. It was written by Russel T Davies who is an Atheist. It was pretty good! Got hundreds of complaints from Christians.

I think it be wize to protect the hearts and minds of nieve and impressionable children.

I think it funny how liberalists want to reinvent sin in order to show the good side of it. Completely ignore that hue hephner is caloused to marital love and traded in 7 blonds for incestive triplets. But he made it work. He's the exception to the rule that proves it's okey.

Not like witch craft is real anyways. Not like demon possesion by polterguists is real. Not like Jesus cast the demon out of a psychic. Not like psychic claim they have spirit guides.

Just go on believeing what fits your desires. Too bad there is such a thing as false expectations. The number one reason for depression is just beliveing in the wrong thing.

Phillip Pullman's goal is to "Kill God in the minds of children."
What are we suppose to do? Shout "hooray", and take all the kids we can find to see the movie?
We are Christians! We don't want our kids exposed to a movie in which children kill God!! And, being Christians, we need to warn others not to be deceived by these "harmless" movies. How is that so hard to understand?
One point is, the movie is made in such a subtle way, that parents think it is harmless. That's what is dangerous about these types of movies. The same way that Harry Potter teaches them witchcraft. If Harry Potter movies are so harmless, then why is it that kids (and adults) just can't seem to get enough of Harry? The whole world goes crazy everytime a new book or movie comes out. People are so into it. And you ask, what's the big deal? I never saw anything like it. they flock in by the herds because they are so entranced by it, they can't help themselves. Hmmm. Maybe you don't see what we see, because you're not a Christian. You're right about one thing. You don't get it.

Sorry. Not trying to be a "butt!" I guess I just figured if you read about it, that surely it said something about why Pullman wrote it. I guess I get a little aggrevated when it comes to children and what the world tries to teach them. They are God's precious little ones, and we are suppose to protect them from the likes of Phillip Pullman, and J.K Rowling. Forgive me.

The right-wing Christians who are making a fuss over this movie leading their children along the wrong path (or whatever) are going to end up giving the film more press than it would have gotten otherwise.

I want to see it, personally.

the thing is that the writer is an atheist and in the last book they try to kill god. they also say that god is a fake. the writer has said that he wants children to watch the movie then not believe that their is a god. i personally don't understand what all the fuss is about. if kids came out of the movie believing every thing that happened in it then they would come out believing in talking bears and witches.

It follows the same path that every other story that does not fit neatly into christian viewpoints does. If it's not christian, it MUST be evil and of the devil and trying to sway our children to the path of darkness. Idiotic if you ask me.

I should say that this is not the viewpoint of all christians. This is a fundamentalist christian view.

I have never heard of it before, but allot of people in here say that god is killed in the end. GOD can not be killed, and in the series Stargate SG1. Egyptian gods were killed allot.
It depends on what GOD or god(s) dies in the movie.
P.S. I do believe in GOD and I still love to watch Stargate... the movie and the series's.

Just a bunch of religious freaks complaining just like they always do. If you don't like the ending then don't watch it, simple as that. Just like usual, they will complain and nothing will be done about it. Multi million dollar movie vs. crazy God lady from Trading Spouses...who would win? GARGOYLES! DARK SIDED!
