I run a program that is not compatible with Windows Vista yet. All new notebooks only carry Vista. Can I convert the Vista operating system back to Windows XP? If so how? Thanks!

You would need to delete the parition that holds Vista, reformat it, and install XP from a CD (with a legal key code).

During the XP install, you will be offered an option to parition and format the drive. So if you simply boot off an XP CD and run the set up, you will be able to "downgrade" to XP. But you have to do both the repartition and reformat to get rid of Vista.

(If you have not yet purchased the notebook, talk to the dealer. Often they will install XP instead of Vista for you if you ask.)

If you have installed a vista transformation pack on XP then just uninstall that or else just run the XP CD and install XP over VISTA..

There is no way to downgrade. Too bad because Vista really is the pits! You will have to do a backup of anything you want to keep, and reinstall XP.

No....

But you can either run the offending program in compatibility mode, properties>compatibility

If that doesn't work then you could try VMware and install a virtual copy of XP.
