Deuteronomy 21:18-21 requires stoning to death any child who is stubborn or rebellious.
Proverbs 22:15 says you should beat your foolish children with a rod.

There are many more stories in the Bible about babies and/or children being sacrificed or killed. Abraham was the first, even though he didn't follow through.
To the first respondent-if your kid was ever killed/sacrificed, you'd know it wasn't a 'test of faith'. That's moronic. Like the things God lets his angel Satan, do to Job in that book, the Book of Job. There's another story that involves killing children.
I found that other religions all include interesting theories/philosophies that are based on their culture. I would suggest a comparative religion class. There isn't an easy answer.

Before Jesus came and paid the ultimate price for our sin humans were punished for being sinful people. Jesus has taken that away for us.
