As in 'Mi fa male...' "i have a sore..."

I'm just starting out in learning Italian, and i've seen this in phrases, and it's never directly translated. Dictionaries that I have don't list it, but only have it in phrases.

And, when do you use it?

*note* I'm not looking for the translation of 'mi fa male', rather what is 'fa' and when do you use it.

fa could mean a lot of things....it´s the 3 person (singular)of the verb fare at the present...

in this case mi fa male la testa=it means my head hurts

but then fa comes from the verb fare=to do or to make
but if i´m asking you tuo babbo che mestiere fa?i´m asking you what is your father profession(or what does your father do as profession)?.....

if i say that smoking is damaging the health(in general) i would say fumare fa male alla salute

il gatto fa miao=the cat "does"(its sound) miao

2+2=4 you can say 2 piú 2 fa 4

fa freddo/caldo=it´s cold/it´s warm(when you speak about the weather)

it depends always in what sentence you use it..

'Fa' is 3rd person singular of the verb 'fare' - to make or to do - plus lots of other meanings. It's irregular, as you'd expect!

mi fa means like it's making me, and mi fa male means it's making me sick, or bad.
Or when you say tu mi fai ridere it means you make me laugh. I hope you understood.

It's a conjugation of the verb "fare" (to do - to make), present indicative, third person singular.

It translates "he/she/it makes/does" as in "it makes me ill"

In your sentence it means "it hurts"

Edited: "fa", as I said, is a conjugation of "fare". "Lui fa" - "Lei fa".

When do you use it? whenever you need to. It's difficult to answer that question.

"All flavors are flavors," literally. Perhaps it's a phrase I'm not aware of. tutti = all i gusti = the flavors son = sono = are gusti = flavors

look for "facere" I believe it is the equivalent of the French "faire" which is an irregular verb that is used for just about everything one can "DO" in French, and few things that can't be done by people like beautiful weather......il fait beau aujourd'hui...."laissez-faire"...as in economics (leave alone, let be)
