i mean throwing fits over harry potter and this golden compass movie...

how many atheists threw fits when Passion of the Christ came out? or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?

what im asking is, why do christians feel the need to protest anything that isnt christian based?

what sparks this? is there this intense hate for non-christians or what?

I've read [and own] all of the Harry Potter books, and I have all of the DVDs as well.

To me, the HP books represent just another setting for a teenage adventure. It boils down to the good vs. evil thing. The books did become increasingly 'darker' toward the end of the series, but it's a personal call whether or not to read them.

Frankly, the whole Potter experience [reading the books, watching the movies] hasn't shaken my faith in God one iota. And no, I don't feel the need to protest.

Sorry, I haven't been out of my cave in a while, I don't know the 'scoop' on the Golden Compass movie.

I'm a Christian and I have no problem with Harry Potter. I don't know anything about the golden compass, but if I think it will offend me, then I just won't see it in the first place.

There have been movies released that I felt would be offensive (such as Borat) so I didn't see them at all. I'm not going to waste my time protesting outside the cinema, because that's just going to make people want to see the moive anymore. Besides, what do I care if people want to see a movie that's not exactly my taste? It's not as if watching a gory or violent movie will turn people into satanists or serial killers.
If I really felt the need to take action to make the world a better place, I would spend the afternoon volunteering at a homeless or domestic violence shelter, or raising money for a charitable organization.

What you're forgetting is that atheists are throwing fits over Christians on a daily basis.

I'd like to give you a satisfactory answer to your question, but to do so will take a lot of time. The short answer regarding Harry Potter is that witchcraft is condemned by the Bible, and these movies generate a huge amount of interest from kids. Christians are concerned about the message and the amount of influence these things are going to have on not only on their kids, but unbelievers kids as well. And they're afraid of the resulting effects in society --- a darker, more sinful world.

the passion was a VERY controversial movie! and it was an uproar which is why no know actors would play in it it was a almost new to the scene cast. Mel went through a lot too filming it but it was a great victory!

Another thing some people do things in the name of Christianity but is not representative of what the Bible teaches and in that you are right there should be no uproar about it ...we live in a secular society ......but that will not stop Christains from Going out to spread the GOOD NEWS . This is a battle that I would not pick as a Christian

But one I would pick not that the Harry potter book exists but that at one point it was allowed in public schools and the Holy bible was not. Wicca among tweens is on an all time rise and I am almost sure Potter has ALOT to do with it along with the deeply embedded occult influences I noticed bleeding out all through the movie

It's not about something not being Christian based, it's about it being something that's against the word of God. It shouldn't have anything to do with hate or nonchristians, though; I don't know why you would read that into it. Christians aren't supposed to hate, it's unChristlike. People get up in arms about Harry Potter because it shows witchcraft to be something that's ok, when the word says that it's sinful and you shouldn't suffer a witch to live. Personally, I would prefer to talk to my children about what we believe, what the word says and what is and is not allowed in our house. No one makes anyone watch Harry Potter, so I would leave it alone. But that's just me; I don't speak for other Christians, and I thank them not to speak for me. What, may I ask, are Christians supposed to be asking for?

Hello,

Not all Christians protest these movies. I for one have always been a great fan of mythology and sword and sorcery.
Harry Potter is just fantasy and I have yet to see a person fly a broom stick, see spiders the size of pigs or turn into a werewolf for that matter.

That said, the fundies who disagree ought not to say anything since bad publicity and protest is much better than no publicity at all and only arouses more interest and curiosity.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

I'd protest against *any* Harry Potter movie... for all the wrong reasons, of course. I just don't particularly like Harry Potter... Nothing to do with religion.

Please remember that not all Christians are pitching fits over the movie. I am a Christian and if you or anyone else wants to read Harry Potter, see Harry Potter movies, or go see the Golden Compass, that's up to you.

Yes , of course. We hold vigils at night , sometimes in the daylight. We are everywhere and you can't stop us. Our time here is almost up and then we must return home and leave you here to suffer without us.
Beware for we have powerful warriors that will fight for your soul.
The next time you drive by a church ,especially on a Sunday, just think, someone in there may be praying that I get saved right now. So terrible. all those prayer warriors around the world and in this country and that country , all of them praying for the salvation of your soul.
Trying to shove Paradise down your throat. We will shove everything we believe down your throat.
I'm going to stop and pray for you right now. SO look out . who knows what may happen.

It is their fear of exposure that their religion is nothing more than fantasy. The Bible should be in the same book section as Harry Potter and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. That would be the fiction section.

Christians hate, that is what they do. They are afraid of anything exposing their religion for what it is and they hate anyone who is not Christian.

EDIT: JD if you know that God and Satan are real, then please provide the proof. If you are saying that it is the Bible, then I can prove that Harry Potter exists because there is a book about him. Books have all been written by humans, and that is a fact. So where is your proof that you "know" God is real. And you must also know that it is a two way street, but yet atheists are respecting when your religious propaganda comes out and we sit by the sidelines knowing that God is not real. Atheists at least have respect for others, something Christians have never shown.
