Hello,
I was just given a platinum ring from my girlfriend as a present which I like alot. I just have some questions before I go venturing off and doing stuff with the ring on my finger.
First off, can I shower with this ring or do I have to take it off everytime? (It has something engraved on the inside, possibility of trapped bacteria?)
Second, if I wash my hands for example do I have to take it off each time?
Third, Should I wear it to sleep? (I would like to since it's easier just leaving it on than taking it off and on y'know.)
Fourth, how can I clean it lets say if I get some dirty substance on it?
That's all the questions I could think of that were boggling my mind at the moment, I will post some more if I think of any more. If anyone has any other tips or suggestions on what I should do please say! I do not want to get some kind of allergic reaction and not be able to wear this!

Platinum is pretty sturdy and should be non-allergenic (unless it's cheap and alloyed with nickel or another metal). Both my wedding and engagement rings are platinum. I never take them off (obviously). If you're comfortable doing so, you should have no problem washing and sleeping with it on. It shouldn't cause you any issues. If it's polished, it may scratch if you handle rough objects, but you should be fine. Most places that sell jewlery will clean it for you (if you find out where she bought it, they will likely clean it for you for free). Windex also cleans rings wonderfully (though that's more for diamonds, but it does clean the metal bits on my rings as well.)

Definately take it off when washing your hands or showering. Thats just to keep it from scratching or loosing its luster. Just remember to put it in your pocket! Don't go leaving it on the sink in the men's bathroom! I've lost plenty of rings that way. Do buy ring cleaner. You can find that at walmart or walgreens. Buy jewelry cleaner and clean it at least once a week. Don't worry too much. It'll be fine.

my wedding ring is platinum. I wear it all the time except to sleep and shower...not that you can't..but mine has a diamond with prongs and the prongs get stuck in my hair when I wash it and I hate sleeping with any jewelry on. Just take it to the jeweler every 6 months or so and have it cleaned. It WILL get scratched up...if you are doing anything where it will be banged around, I would take it off. I just clean mine with jewelry cleaner and take it in to have the prongs checked and have it prof. cleaned every 6 months - a year.

Yes you can wear it in the shower, when you wash your hands and when your asleep. To clean it just get some jewelry cleaner at the store. Purple cow works the best for me.

Uhhh, its not going to kill you if you do or dont do any of those things. Just wash your hands with dishsoap that has anti bacterial; elements and you will clean the ring at the same time if you leave it on.

the best way to answer all those questions would be to talk to a jewler. They are the only ones who would know whats best to do and what not to do.
