A diet rich in fibre has many health benefits. It reduces the risk of a number of bowel problems - some of them quite serious. These include constipation, haemorrhoids (piles), diverticular disease and cancer of the colon or large bowel.
In addition, soluble fibre helps to stabilise blood sugar levels because it slows down the rate at which glucose is absorbed into the blood stream. It also helps to lower blood cholesterol levels, which is important for reducing the risk of heart disease.
Furthermore the feeling of fullness which fibre produces can help people who are trying to lose weight to control their appetite.

just looking at fat loss.
the higher the fiber intake the lower resting serum insulin levels will be. insulin is a storage hormone, it helps to metabolize nutrients and store the excess. carbohydrates cause the greatest increase in insulin levels after feeding, then fats and finally proteins. this is why it is easy to reduce the body fat when carbohydrates are replaced for lean proteins. controlling insulin levels is the key to controlling the bodyweight.

Fiber is great because it takes a while to digest so it keeps you feeling full. It is also known to keep you running smooth AND it gets rid of cholesterol. This is why oatmeal is now claiming that it reduces cholesterol.

Fibre - often referred to as roughage - keeps our bowels (intestines) working regularly and helps us excrete (dispose of waste).
