A recent report shows that Glenfiddich whisky is the oldest, rarest and one of the most expensive whisky available on planet earth. This whisky first came out of the distillery in 1887. But here we are talking about Glenfiddich rare collection 1937 by William Grant, a recent report says that Myburgh Brothers have an acquisition of a complete range of the only whisky to have been distilled, matured and bottled at its own distillery. As per Andries Kruger, a representative of the official distributor for Glenfiddich in South Africa:
It was distilled in 1937 and bottled in 2001, making it, with 64 years of maturation, by far the oldest whisky available on the planet. Because of the age and the rarity, only 61 bottles were left in 2001. The price is extraordinary. The fixed price worldwide is £16 500 (R181 500), but in auctions prices up to £20 000 (R220 000) are paid a bottle.
An enormous $34,845.98, as auction price, for the oldest whisky in the world and imagine the reason well this is not the only reason for the best-selling single malt Scotch whisky in the world, but the reason is quite valid – it is rare. As per As per Andries:

Scotch was being distilled in1579, tho it was probaly moonshine. In 1644 the Forbes family were doing it on their estate. In 1777 there were 8 legal stills in Edinburgh. Chivas Regal is an old brand. Johnie Walker began in 1820, Dewar, Buchanan and White Horse all came soon after. A brand that i do not think exists anymore Mc Callums began in 1807.

The earliest documented record of distilling in Scotland occurred as long ago as 1494, in the tax records of the day, the Exchequer Rolls.
An entry lists 'Eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor wherewith to make aqua vitae' (water of life). This was sufficient to produce almost 1,500 bottles, suggesting that distilling was already well-established.
