I have seen some dyes in food but this does not sound familiar to me. I wouldn't advise eating it just to be safe.

Not being sure where the parts on a chicken is located, I am guessing on this one. I have gotten chicken livers to prepare at home and they had a bit of green on them where they were not cleaned well. It is the bile from the liver. Have actually eaten some from a fast food place, and they were quite bitter. I would do like everyone suggest and take it back to the supermarket and ask for a replacement. This isn't something they did wrong, just that the chicken was not cleaned thoroughly by the packing co., but they should make it good.

2001 The Food Standards Agency today started consultation on tightening the laws that prevent unfit meat entering the food chain
The proposals could result in poultry meat and low risk red meat that is unfit for human consumption being stained with indelible inks.
could still be happening

DO NOT EAT THIS!!! ANY kind of discoloration of food it bad and you need to stay away. I would take the advice of others and call the grocery store to report this. Even if it is dye, they need to be made aware.

don't eat it...call the store you got it from and explain the situation. they may give you a refund or an exchange for it. i hope you kept a receipt or the original packaging that it was wrapped in.

Take it back to the supermarket, they should either give you your money back or give you another, if that fails get in touch with trading standards. that is nasty. Glad you never ate it.
