Well for starters, it is Atheists (ei not ie) and there are supposed to be spaces after the periods of a sentence. Also the first letter of "Christians" should be capitalized. But then, I never call anyone dumb.

I never watch the Discovery Channel, for what that's worth. I learn from sources of all kinds, any source whatsoever, and believe what I believe and dismiss what makes no sense to me. It's call thinking and learning for yourself, you should try it some time, it can be quite satisfying and enlightening. Few atheists, if any, have faithfulness to one doctrine or man. They're too independently minded to blindly follow anyone. Believe it or not, when I read Richard Dawkin's book "The God Delusion", there were points on which I personally disagreed or doubted his words. In atheist circles, however, this practice is not condemned as heresy as it is in religion. No one gets righteously offended. The real dumb follower is the one who believes that all of the wisdom in the entire world is contained in one single book written thousands of years ago and does not even consider looking elsewhere. Those people who watch The Discovery Channel have certainly never heard it said by anyone that they should not watch The Learning Channel, National Geographic Channel, The History Channel or avoid any other source of knowledge in the way that religion demands loyalty. Feel free to give me a thumb down for disagreeing with you.

Correction. My mother is a Atheist and she doesn't like discovery channel *or* sci fi. In fact, she tries to avoid it.

I, on the other hand, am not a Atheist, but I do love discovery channel (but I love sci fi just as much as my mother does... well, maybe unless it's Dr. Who.). Note that I said I am *not* a Atheist.

Right. Now we've established that not all Atheists are discovery channel addicts and therefore certainly not believe what that channel dictates to them. On the other hand, discovery channel doesn't dictate, it shares information and it is up to you to do with it what you want.

And I don't think you're brainwashed if you put blind faith into the Bible. However, judging by the question you asked and the mind boggling number of misconceptions in it, I would have to admit you personally sound very dumb.

Probably because you ignore the mountainous volumes of works that all agree through good demonstrable evidence that the majority of things written in the bible are wrong, misguided, allegorical, amoral, immoral and at best questionable. If my only source of information on say evolution was Darwin's Origin of species I'd be a dumb follower too. But Luckily I don't only have Darwin's work to Rely on. I have an almost endless supply of works on evolution, probably more than I could read in a life time, the same goes for any other area of science and psychology that dispute the bible as anything other than fiction. The fact that you only follow the word of a single 2000 year old book as the greatest source of truth puts you firmly in the dumb followers category.

Consider this, often Christians will accept whatever another Christian tells them as true, without checking sources or researching it; this is very demonstrated in creationist claims, as far as I know there isn't a single one that hasn't been proven over and over to be completely false.

We do not believe what some scientist believes, we examine what they say and look at the evidence, and then decide. The Discovery Channel has many good well research programs but it also has ones that are conjectures, so I don't use it as my single source of information. I do read current books on various sciences, several different magazines and many different research sites on the net.

Okay, I am neither an atheist nor a Christian, but "Every Athiest loves discovery channel and sci fi and say this is how the world started because the discovery channel had a special on it.So who is the real dumb follower?" is REALLY, REALLY SILLY.

Many atheists think Christians are brain washed dummies because SOME CHRISTIANS ARE.

Some atheists are too stupid to know the difference between "some and all" and so are some Christians.

You guys deserve each other.

Well, I just disproved your argument. I don't love the Sci-Fi channel except for the occasional bad TV movie, and if you think I take those as truth...wow. And the Discovery Channel is cool, but I research things myself, thank you. I don't take them as the ultimate truth, not in the least. Not to burst your bubble, but most atheists don't think that if it's on TV, it must be true.
Personally, I love Cartoon Network and the History Channel (which I also watch with a few pinches of salt).

What's that you got? A book? Just one? And only a few words are actual "truth," the rest is just theological speculation? Huh.

At least what's on TV is based on some sort of knowledge or truth.
The bible is a document written by man that has been copied several times. there is no way to know if it was truly inspired by god, or if in fact it wasn't altered by the very men who wrote it.
The fact is those who follow the bible literally are more than likely following the self righteous arrogant ranting of a man who lived 2000 thousand years ago.
I have no problem with people following the ideals and moral guidance the bible offers but following it religiously is just mindless.
Take for example in the UK just 2 days ago, the family let a woman die because she was a Jehovah's Witness and they don't believe in having a blood transfusion because the bible 'says so'. It's ridiculous that you would put a book above your life. there is no sense in it, a supposedly benevolent god would never want a woman's life in exchange for a woman's belief.

That is an old problem. The writer of Psalm 73 had the same question. Psalm 73:3-9 (KJV) 3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. 5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. 6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. 7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. 8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. 9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. God is good to all His creatures, even those who hate Him. Psalm 145:9 (KJV) 9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

Ideologues exist on both sides of the argument. Not ALL atheists or Christians are vicious. Only those who are not totally convinced of their own beliefs or who find Christians or Atheists (whatever the case may be) threatening to their own beliefs. A thinking and reasonable person does not have to rail against others who don't hold his views to make a point. He is, or should be, confident that what he believes is true. There is only one truth about beginnings and endings. however and in the end...that truth will prevail. There is nothing personal about that.
A reasonable and mature individual, is open to other ideas, even if not persuaded, and he or she is not compelled to demean those who hold different beliefs.

Atheists think that the world started the way it says on the sci fi channel?

Wow. As an atheist, I must've been wrong all these years as I don't watch sci fi.

I think you will find that many religionists also have faith in science. The same workings of evolution go into the study and development of vaccines.
