Seed, they took all that time to ensure it was growing and just watched it get chopped off and then said "What"? The tree can teach them what they don't even want to learn!

I am going to try to follow where You are drifting.
The tree analogy. Chop it down, it will die -- the top part, anyway, because the leaves have lost their connection to their roots. Sometimes the roots will generate new growth. Please note that this is about what is hidden, deep inside the breast or under the surface.
You don't have to put it on the ground to kill the tree. A vine that climbs the trunk, digging roots into the bark, can and will kill that tree if it goes all the way around the trunk. The only living part of the tree is the outer (newest) layer of inner bark. Just take Your chainsaw, Jason, and circumcise the thing and watch it die.
How does this apply to what You seem to be saying about churches and freedom?

The only time I've ever cut the trunk of a tree was when the tree was already dead. We had to make room for a new tree.

You have to cut the bark off completely around to kill it. It will hollow out from the inside if you do that.
