I've heard that Buddhist don't get high blood pressure. Or ulcers. There is very little stress related disorder in their society.

What's the secret? I'd like to know, too.

I bet the Buddhists in Myanmar are not the happiest people in the world right now. Though Buddhism is a path of peace and non-conflict, Burma hasn't been experiencing that reality recently.

In Thailand, where I lived for two years, Buddhism seems to have a profound effect on the lives of people in terms of peace and non-confrontation. At the same time, the Thai government has been dealing with decades of corruption which culminated in the most recent military coup (which got us out of school for a few days).

Buddhists live in the present-moment; they do not dwell on the past nor worry about the future. They are detached from their ego as well as physical-material things with their main focus being on Oneness with the Divine Source/God.

Not the Buddhists that were living under that theocratic government in Tibet. The Dalai Lama was probably pretty happy though. He had all those slaves...oops...I meant serfs. Sorry.

Hello,

If you look at Buddhists societies and cultures starting with Burma, you will see that all is not rosy with those peoples and societies... drug problems to military rule and great poverty and environmental pollution.

Cheers,

Buddhists teach themselves to let the physical world go. Basically to not let anything bother them.

part of their philosophy is to let go. that means letting go of hate, material things, etc.

once a group of monks spent 3 months making a beautiful piece of art with little grains of sand. after completing it, they threw it into a river.

holding onto things creates anxiety. letting go is nirvana.

also, they are always trying to develop their inner Buddha. everyone has one inside of them. it needs to be nurtured, through good acts and positive thinking.

The secret is meditation. Though it's not much of a secret.

They have a live and let live attitude.

They meditate a lot.

Many of them are vegetarian, and even the ones that eat meat generally eat healthier than the rest of us.
