Depends on the God. Since the God of the Muslims (Allah) and the God of the Jews (G-d) and the God of the Christians (God) (plus other names written down in the texts) all refer to the same deity, it'd be hard to peg an expert based on one holy text or application of worship. This example should show that the idea of God is so different between religions and even between individuals that an objective expert cannot be found. Maybe you could try Joseph Campbell or the older and somewhat more biased but also more extensive "Golden Bough" by Fraser, but these may be equated to an attempt to come up with the Grand Unified Field Theory for Culture and Religion. And you won't find God everywhere reproduced in the same terms.

Which God do you speak and of which religion do you speak?
In simplistic terms, in christianity, specifically catholicism, we believe that God has revealed his message through His Son Jesus Christ. That message was given to the apostles whom had the obligation and authority to deliver it to all people. Christ promised that God would always be with his Church, helping them preserve the message.
The answer to the question from a catholic perspective is that the church, the visible body of Christ on earth, in communion with God, has the authority to reveal the message given to them. This does not mean that individuals within the church never err nor does it mean that every question in the human mind is answered by the church. She (the church) does not possess a dictionary, but possess' what is necessary for salvation.

Since everyone has a different definition of "God," I would say it's impossible to find an objective expert. There are certain people who are experts on their specific denomination (pastors), some are experts on theology (studied theologians), others are experts on church history, etc. I'd imagine that every individual Christian considers him/herself an expert on their personal God, just as atheists consider themselves experts because they see themselves free of indoctrination.

There is no single answer to that. Everyone knows something or somethings about GOD, but no-one can know everything about HIM. If you want to get the best of all possible info, talk to several people, and a few Messianic Jews. They have kept the traditions and history for thousands of yours.

Since it is not based upon the man's wisdom or skill, God's messengers come in all forms....though more often than not, they are the less educated - perhaps so God's glory can more clearly be seen!
26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. (1 Cor 1)

Paul taught that the body has many members. The hand - foot -eye -ear -etc - all have different functions. Likewise the church has many functions. Paul instructed us to submit one to another. He also taught there are set in the church ministry gifts(apostles -prophets - teachers - evangelists - pastors). He also said we have no need for anyone to teach us because the Holy Spirit is our teacher. Paul also taught to study to show yourself approved. Elders who have been tested can be our mentors, but the Word of scripture is our final authority.

I think anytime we put blind faith in mortal men without questioning their views for ourselves, we set ourselves up for disappointment. Tis better to question everyone and everything and find the knowledge for yourself without relying too heavily on the opinions of others.
