I am a divorced woman. I did not have a biblical reason for divorce. I realize that it was a sin against God. The bible says a woman is not to leave her husband, but if she does, she is to either be reconciled to her husband, or remain unmarried. Since I revere the word of God and love Jesus, I tried reconcilation, in fact, several times. The same thing happened, I just wanted to be away from him...permanently.
Being forgiving and merciful, God has both forgiven and restored me, set my feet on the solid rock of His word and given me a beautiful life. But I do observe His admonition of not marrying again, so I will not. I don't even date.
I can't speak for anyone else, but this is the course I have chosen. A word to the wise; be very, very careful about what you say "yes" to.

There is nothing spiritual or divine about divorce. It is a nasty piece of business, usually filled with much emnity.
If there are children involved, the situation only worsens.
What are the consequences? Depending upon the maturity of those involved, it will work out just fine. It only becomes awful when the two adults involved behave in an immature way....or if the adults use the children as pawns.
Strong parenting skills are required by both parties to keep the kids on an even keel.
Remember this, children are better off in a broken home due to divorce than living day by day in a relationship that is broken and angry.

In Christianity, there divorce is allowed if your spouse is unfaithful. Mathew 19 discusses this in detail. Other than than that, it is forbidden by Gods law.

Perhaps you should be considering the benefits of divorce. Why focus on the negative?

The Catholic Church is against it, but personally, I was better off divorcing, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Another trip to the cross. Then living with a sense of failure for the rest of your life, along with relief.
It's the physical world that is in real danger.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
It's cheaper to keep her guys.

I would think the answer isn't black and white but on a case-by-case basis. I don't see how leaving someone who abuses you can be a sin.
