I have a 62 inch Toshiba widescreen and I think it's one of the most gorgeous pictures I've ever seen. The HD channels are amazing!

The bottom line when choosing which TV to buy is: Which one do you think has the best picture? I have always preferred the picture on Sony TVs, even before the advent of HD. I was looking to buy an LCD HDTV last year. So, I went to Costco to look at the various models available. All of the pictures looked similar. And, maybe I'm biased, but I just thought the Sony looked a bit better than the others.

The TVs were lined up on the shelves at an angle, so you could stand at the end of the aisle and see all of the pictures straight on at the same time. I walked down the aisle and turned back around, when I noticed something interesting. Now all of the TV screens were at a very sharp angle (I was viewing them almost directly from the sides now). And all of the screens looked dark - almost black - except for two screens, which appeared to be nearly full brightness. I walked over and looked at the brands of these two TVs. And, both of them were Sonys.

One thing I was concerned about with flat-panel (LCD and plasma) screens was that they have a limited viewing angle. That is, as soon as you move your viewing angle slightly off center of the screen, the picture quality was significantly reduced. The way my living room is set up, I have a TV in the corner, with a sofa to the left and stadium seats to the right. So, I needed a TV that I could watch and enjoy at an angle to the screen. And, the Sony filled that requirement, where the others didn't. In fact, it turns out that the rated viewing angle for the Sony LCD screen is about 176 degrees.

Here's a consumer review I found on CNET, where he compares the Sony KDL-40V3000 to a comparable Samsung model. You might find it helpful
