I always wanted to be fluent in a language. It just so happen that Spanish is the most common language in America. I was wondering if a 22 year old like myself, can learn this language fluently? I've heard it take a long time...especially since I'm an adult. But do you think it's possible. Another thing I want to ask is that I noticed I get alot of mixed emotions from Spanish women when they find out I'm learning Spanish. As if they don't want me to learn them. Dont get me wrong, Im not racist...but is it because I'm black and because I want too learn "their" language? I know theres been an on going ignorant battle between black females and puerto rican females..but please answer both of my questions with respect. Thanks.

What does you being black have to do with it? Of course you can learn spanish at 22. You're barely an adult. Do it because you want to. Choosing not to learn it because Puerto Ricans might not like it is absurd. Sounds like you have some ignorant stereotypes to deal with.

Forgetting colour and other hand-ups, 22 is a great age at which to learn a language because you're pretty grown up and already have a good idea of what you want to talk about.

It's interesting the reaction you get from Hispanics - perhaps they think you will be after their men-folk! Japanese people are often wary of foreigners that learn their language to a good level - they feel it's an invasion of their character and nationalism, etc.

Go for it!

I had this same problem....
I'll get weird looks trying to speak spanish to latin americans....Like I wasn't supposed to speak it or something...but you'll definitely learn to speak it fluently!
but I also look dominican so they accepted it....anyways I don't speak spanish that much anymore.....
