I'm going to be purchasing a new wide angle lens for my Nikon D200 soon. I'm looking for some suggestions as to which one.

I'm looking for something short, fast, and that's pretty much it. Obviously I want as much quality as I can get for a reasonable price.

Write your own review of your favourites, or send links to great reviews and product descriptions. I ALWAYS come back and pick a best answer once the question is closed. :o)

Thanks for your advice!

Have you considered any of these lenses?

AF DX FISHEYE-NIKKOR 10.5mm f2.8G ED

AF NIKKOR 14mm f2.8D ED

AF FISHEYE-NIKKOR 16mm f2.8D

If you visit nikonusa.com you'll find their entire lens line.

As recommended above I would also go with the Nikon 12-24mm DX lens. It's an amazing piece of work and worth its weight in gold. I've heard good things about the Tokina 12-24mm, but in the end I personally don't recommend 3rd party lenses. Half the reason to buy a Nikon or Canon is to be able to use their excellent optics. If you're on a budget the Nikon 18-70mm DX lens is very quick and sharp. It's not an ultra-wide, but it gets pretty wide and is about 1/3 the price of the 12-24mm Nikon. Or..... there's always the 10.5mm Nikon Fisheye lens. It has the widest viewing angle available from Nikon (from what I understand) and images can be recitified using applications like DXO to be usable for "regular" pictures.

Check out Tamrons. I have a Tamron 19-35 that's very nice, and reasonably priced.

I'm sure they also have wider - haven't checked lately - but they'll be more expensive.

I use mine on a Nikon D 100 and have produced a lot of very good images with it.

Don't buy Quantarray from Ritz! Stick to either Nikkor lenses, Sigma, or Tamron.

I don't own one, but all the pros here seem to use the 12-24mm f/4 G ED-IF AF-S DX. It's not cheap, though.

Teef just bought one, so I'll leave the hands-on review to him.
