the Holy Bible (KJV, etc.) & what is written in there or else they would put you in jail; Would you end up in jail, guilty as charged?
Because maybe your Holy Bible was highlighted & open with no dust on it, & they saw other evidence like you praying with others in faith, in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God?
Or would you go by the rules of the land?

Holly, This is a 'what if' question. They do persecute Christians in other countries this way.

I just read somewhere that a man was put in prison for reading a bible. So? In USA we have freedom to have a bible. But if they took it away from me, I hopefully have the Word of God written on my heart & mind. I would just listen to the Holy Spirit who bring biblical verses to mind.

Isolde, Where do you get 'reproduce or don't eat the fruit'. When God created man & woman, he told them to reproduce & multiply. God said to not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good or evil. The fruit is 'disobeying God'. When we disobey God then we know what is good & what is evil. Disobeying God is evil (rebellion).
Sex isn't the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good or evil, if that is what you think.

First of all, I am a Christian, not a mormon. I would definitely be guilty because I am not going to deny my God! Jesus says, "Pick up my cross and follow me." and "Whoever denies me, denies my Father." I'd rather face jail then spend eternity away from my Savior and Creator!!

This is the same dilemma as Adam and Eve. They had a choice between two commandments. Reproduce or don't eat the fruit. They couldn't keep both. We are told to obey the law and to read the scriptures. I would be justified by obeying the law of the land. I would chose to break the law and read the scriptures provided I brought no harm to others.

Well that is a tough one. We believe in obeying the laws of the land. However we also believe in obeying God. I have always wondered at what point the Law of God would trump the law of the Land in my home- that kind of law would be pretty close to the line.
I am reminded of Daniel and how a law was passed that he could not pray to his God- he did it anyway and he was rewarded for his obedience to God.
I am not sure what I would do in that case. If I am ever at that point, I will have to let the spirit guide me. I am inclined to say that would most likely be the time I would put the Law of God over the Law of the Land.
And for you people who are saying that could never happen in America- Pay very close attention to Congress and those people who are running for office. There are bills before Congress that are in Direct violation of the Constitution and there are very popular Candidates who are socialist and support these the unconstitutional laws being passed. The laws I am talking about are not anti-abortion or gay rights laws- I am talking about things that specifically violate constitutional amendments like anti-gun laws and then there is one right now that is a threat to our Soverienty and would hand a lot of power to the UN. It CAN happen in America unless we put people in power who truly care. When we say it can never happen, then we are sorely misguided and will loose our freedoms.

I suppose if I lived in China and this was the law, I would obey the letter of the law but fight to have the law changed in any legal fashion. I would also worship in any legal way I could; like recite memorized scriptures in my head and have a prayer in my heart.
Makes me grateful I live in the good old USofA where I can pray and read scriptures regardless of what others may say!!
I would endeavor to worship within the laws of the land.

Are you asking if I would still study the Bible? I would try to find a way to study the Bible. However, living in America that won't happen, since there is a separation of church and state. In other places, our missionaries do follow the laws and don't preach where it is illegal.

Well...
This is tough because Jesus tells us to be law abiding citizens. I would probably hide my bible, put it in storage or something. There would be no evidence of me praying or gathering with others...well there would if they like bugged my house or something...
But for the most part yes, but I would still pray and stuff.

Rae F...you should do your research because the LDS church is a recognized religion and all religion is a cult.

Well what is the precursor for such a law? I would still worship in private. But I know what you are trying to get at. No the church does not practice or condone polygamy. They didn't say it's wrong, they just said it's wrong right now.

Well I am sure glad that there is a 1st Amendment to the Constitution.
And if there was a law like that, I would seek to overthrow that tyrannical government.

That would be a violation of religious rights, and so that would never happen. But, hypothetically then it did, I would wait to see what the prophet says to do, which would most likely be to follow the laws of the land.
But again, it would never happen.

Yeah, Im Mormon and the Bible is wonderful, we all read it. So this is a weird question. Even if we're just playing for pretends, it doesn't work.... and we DO pray in the name of Jesus Christ.... this question is weird....
