well kinda both. you can have a lavish and inexpensive wedding. just manage your costs and money. you can make it look like you spent a lot more money on it than you really did.

I would rather have it somewhere in the middle. But I have seen both pulled off really well and think that it is up to the couple. There are people who can afford to have huge lavish weddings and I think that it their choice. I would prefer to use the money for a down payment on a house but those are the options that I have.

very simple and inexpensive. I feel like the more laid back they are the more I enjoy myself. Many lavish weddings give me the feeling of uptight nonsense and I don't enjoy myself. I like the creative kind that feel like a party more so than a formal ballroom type setting. Which is why I will be getting married on a beach and having the reception outside and have it catered with BBQ food!

I prefer to be a guest at lavish weddings, but want my own to be simple and inexpensive.

Simple is good.

1. Less stress
2. More time to focus on the marriage
3. More time with guests/family. Some couples have so many wedding guests that they barely have time to say "hello" to them, much less have a conversation. Guests often make sacrifices (money and time) to go to a wedding. They may feel slighted if the couple can spend no time with them.
4. Less debt, and less stress on the marriage relationship

I think lavish weddings are a waste of money. I think the goal of a wedding is for the two people to become one through marriage, not to impress people.

I would love to be a guest at a lavish wedding - how fun!

For my own wedding, it was somewhere right in the middle of the two - for us, it was all about classic elegance.

Simple and inexpensive. I like a wedding where there is a personal feel to it. I'd rather walk away saying, "I love the way they incorporated their grandparents' vows" than "That prime rib sure was tasty."

There are plus sides to both really and it's up to the couple to decide what suits them best. I had a small wedding but have attended some awesome big weddings.

We had a small one 15 years ago and we're just fine. Marriage is what matters not what kind of wedding you had. Instead of waisting money on a huge wedding (unless you're rich), use the money for a down payment on a house and your honeymoon.
