To my knowledge the answer is no. My sister has 3 tats and still gives blood when she can. I believe the only restrictions are health related. Weight(rather under weight) and certain illnesses are issues. Check with your local Red Cross for the TRUE restrictions.

I'm not sure if they are prohibited from donating indefinitely, but I think there is a waiting period like a year or more after getting a new tattoo--it's because of the risk of bloodborne pathogens from tattoo needles such as hepatitis and HIV.

Not all tattoo studios practice adequate sterilization methods, and it's impossible to distinguish whether or not they did at the point of blood donation, so it's a health precaution.

Not exactly. People with tattoos can donate blood, but sometimes this is not allowed for up to a year after they get their last tattoo. This restriction is to prevent the spread of hepatitis. Consult your local blood bank to find out what restrictions they use.

In the UK they ask for a certain amount of time between having your tattoo and donating blood, I cannot remember how many years it is now, but after that time period they do allow you to donate blood.

I tried to donate once and they do ask when your last tattoo was completed. There is a time window where you are not allowed to donate after a piercing or tattoo.

yes and no.....

If you have recently gotten a tattoo you are unable to give blood due to the ink and healing process of the body. After about a year you are able to go back, but I would give it a little longer. If you haven't gotten the tattoo yet and wish to give blood, then I would do it before, and then get the tattoo. You will be able to give again after a year, and will be fine.

No, but you do have to wait a certain period of time before being allowed to donate after you get a tattoo.

There is often a time period involved. If the tattoo has been put on within a certain time period (6 mos to a year?) then no. Your local Red Cross can tell you over the phone.
