I will not sway you towards one denomination or another. What I will do is to tell you what I consider to be the primary guidepost, the one thing that will put you on the right path.
Christians follow God. Anyone that follows any leader (Jesus)
will adhere to that person's teachings, viewpoints, etc.
For example, a communist will be adherents of Marx, a Buddhist to Buddha, etc.
A Christian adheres to the Bible, which is the ONLY true source for all faith and practices. It must be trusted, since it contains all the words of God.
So it is obvious that a true church will teach the Bible, and encourage the congregants to live according to it.
Here's the difficulty- in our day, churches sometimes disregard the Bible, preferring instead to follow after popular culture. What you or anyone needs to do, is to learn the Bible, and find a church that holds it in its rightful place.
There is a huge difference between what the Bible says, and what the world teaches.
If you are serious about finding a church, let me know. I would like to know how you make out.

Try a few out. Choose the one where you feel most spiritually fullfilled. Each church, see if you can pick up their doctrine, what they say they believe. Some churches have it on display in the entryway...others don't you'd have to ask. Choose one that you agree with their individual beliefs.
As a matter of fact, check out this website: http://christianity.about.com/od/christiandoctrines/Doctrines_of_Christian_Denominations.htm
It talks about different denominations. Good luck.

Research about religions and find the one that seems to attract you the most. Or go a visit local churches where you live and decide which on makes you feel the most comfortable and expresses how you feel.

A lot of people decide on a church based on what they feel they church will do for them! If you've decided on a faith, then you have no problem. Your challenge is whether you have a mindset to serve or to be served!
Any church you choose of your chosen faith will have the same type of people, and their problems too.

Call, write, visit, check websites, and request a church's Statement Of Faith.
Pare down the number of your choices, and try them out. You get to go to church, and learn what the ministry is like first hand.
Network through friends, and try their churches... that's always a good means in the decision process.

I am on the search with you! We just moved and my husband and I are looking! I look in the newspaper and ask neighbors and such. The best way is to enter a church and sit through a service. Get a feel of it and see if it fits you. Your heart will be guided if the Lord wants you to return! Good luck in your searches!

Which church is mentioned in the New Testament? Christ founded only one church.

Asking people that you admire spiritually, try some different ones out, see where you feel you would learn the most and feel the most comfortable. Prayer always helps.

Your spiritual life is yours to decide, try participating with various religious groups, and if you dont find fulfillment in any of them maybe it's time to formulate your own ideas or beliefs. It's all completely up to you
