I am waffling over trading my sweet Jeep SUV for a more practical form of transportation. Can you help with the decision. I love my Jeep but with global warming, gas prices, etc..... I feel compelled to downsize. I drove the Mazda3 and love the zoom zoom, but it does not have 4wheel drive, all the space, etc..... What say you all????????????????

I would never trade my Wrangler in for anything. I rather skip a meal than to skip driving my Jeep. There's nothing better than taking the Jeep into the National Forest to watch nature up close.

Zoom all you want, you'll never capture the same experience of your Jeep!

I guess you should ask yourself some questions. Do you "need" 4WD? Do you feel compelled to downsize because of peer pressure, or because you believe it's the responsible thing to do (as SUVs go, the Liberty is not as bad as some of the monsters out there)?

There are a lot of cars out there with front-wheel-drive and traction control that will do just as well in adverse conditions on normal roads as 4WD does. They are not top heavy and will get better fuel economy. You will probably save money on insurance and definitely on gas. Also, if you trek to the great outdoors or tow something a couple of times a year, try renting a truck or SUV and save money over time.

BTW...All that space you see in the Liberty can be misleading. There are many cars out there that have quit a bit of cargo/people space, just check out the manufacturer's cargo ratings and see for yourself.

Enjoy your search!

First, are you in an area where you need 4WHL DRIVE?
If so it's a no brainer. But for me, I wouldn't switch regardless. The Liberty is MUCH more versatile. As to the added cost of operation..............PSHAW! If you are a recreational driver opposed to a driver who uses the auto for employment, chances are you won't spend 125 dollars more in a year on fuel. Calculate it. What's the versatility worth?

well mazda 3s get better milage then jeeps. so overcourse you might be saving yourself a bit of money. i would like to see more people in this country do smarter choices like this. i congratulate you on helping the earth and the economy. you won't regret it.And you won't really need all that space as a jeep has, mazda 3 has plenty, might be more crammed on family vacations, but it does the job.......
