While that amount is not entirely realistic, this is how you lose weight: calories in must be less than calories out. It's that simple. Diet crazes notwithstanding, all you have to do is burn more calories than you take in. Rather than starving yourself, what you want to do is make the calories in come from good, healthy sources: whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and lean dairy. Then, you need to exercise. But don't go crazy the first day or you will regret it on day 2. Work up to it, do aerobic activity, stretching, weight training, etc. A good mix is best. If your diet is poor now, even cutting out regular soda/pop and high-fat foods like pizza and fast food can help you drop weight fast the first couple weeks. You have an advantage as a guy because you will likely find it easier to lose weight than a woman. But, after the initial big drop you might experience, it will slow down. Studies show that losing 1-2 pounds a week is healthy. Any more and you risk getting into a yo-yo pattern, which is more dangerous for your body than just staying the way you are now. Also, if you can find a partner to diet/exercise with it is way easier to keep on working at it. My husband and I lost 80 pounds between the two of us, exercising and using the Calorie King calculator for our palm pilots, which made keeping track of calories much easier. It even has nutritional info on all your favorite meals at restaurants. Look for it in the bookstore if you don't have a PDA. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Trying to drop 5 lbs a week is pretty harsh. Try to drop about 1-3 lbs. The results will last. Exercise 4 times a week for about an hour each time. Stick to a 1,300 calorie diet. You'll definitely be melting off fat.

Uhh.. it really unhealthy to loose more than two to four pounds a week so there really is no good way to loose that much weight in a month without gaining it back. Some of my friends that are wrestlers go on a all liquid diet to make their target weight class but thats usually like 15 pounds in a month,

I tried to calculate this out mathematically. I don't claim this is true, but it seems to make sense:

1 gram of fat has 9 calories
1 pound = 454 grams
20 pounds = 9080 grams
9080 grams of fat is equivalent to 81,270 calories.
1 month = 30 days

You need to remove 2724 fat calories per day from your body to accomplish this (without losing muscle).

The average adult needs 2500 calories per day to maintain the weight they are currently at.

So to accomplish your goal, you need to strike a balance between reducing your caloric intake and burning fat through exercise.

I would eat no more than 1500 calories per day, balanced nutrition. This would leave 1724 calories to burn from stores. To burn this amount you'll need to exercise vigorously for about 3 hours per day. One hour on an exercise bike, 1 hour swimming, and 1 hour lifting weights (low weight/high reps).

After a month you will be ripped, health, and weigh 20 pounds less (or lighter).

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Don't eat anything the entire month?

Seriously, losing that much weight that quickly is not safe or healthy.
