My son is leaving in a week for Central American and yesterday we realized the passport agency put him down as a female rather than a male. What can I do? I need to get this fixed a.s.a.p and I know it does not take a day for something like this to be fixed! Please, any and all input would be great!!!

From the US?

You can get a new passport in one day with expedited fees out the nose if you make an appointment and have a ticket leaving in less than 2 weeks. Since this was their error, there might be some break on fees. Go to the US State Department web page, put 'passports' into the search browser and look for 'expedited' passports. If they can get you a new one in 1 day, I'd think they could change this, presuming his face matches his picture and you bring his birth certificate.

Contact your nearest Immigration and Customs Enforcement office or the location where the passport was issued and get the problem correct on the computer system.

They should be able to give you an idea of what to do when confronted with the gender discrepancy upon leaving the country. If not, make sure to take a certified copy of his birth certificate when going through customs at the airport.

Good luck.

If you live near a big city go to the nearest passport agency. You will need to make an appointment.

no dressing in drag is not going to help at all. in fact it would get you in bigger trouble if you did try that. no just go to the nearest passport agency right away and see what they can do real fast.

Contact your embassy as soon as possible. They will probably have to reissue another passport to him. If you can go yourself with all the documents to the embassy this will probably help your chances of them dealing with the situation promptly.

I don't know if they would let him travel if the information provided would clearly show he was not a female.

I've got a pair of garden shears here...

seriously, I don't think it will get fixed on the passport before he leaves. call the agency and ask them what to do.

If your leaving next week I would say to put him in a dress for the trip and have it fixed when he gets back.
