You can search the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - Office of Defects Investigation for complaints on any vehicles by :year, make , model etc
Here are the current formal complaints (17) filed by owners of the 2007 Corolla:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/complaintresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=1&year=2007&make=TOYOTA&model=COROLLA&component_id=0&PrintVersion=YES
The '07 Camry has well over 300 formal safety complaints,
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/complaintresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=1&year=2007&make=TOYOTA&model=CAMRY&component_id=0&PrintVersion=YES
so the reputation of Toyota's seems to have diminished substatially, at least in the eyes of the owners filing complaints.
From the same government site you can also review :
Recalls
Defect Investigations
Technical Service Bulletins
Another site that you can research is :
ConsumerAffairs.com
There is a lawsuit going on regarding Toyotas & their prepondancy to engine sludge build-up:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/toyota_engine.html
Consumer Report Magazine recently made a blanket statement that Toyota's quality & reputation had been slipping substantially & they actually put the Camry & the Tundra on their "We do NOT recommend" list!
There is a lot of information on "the net" available to consumers. I tend NOT to view the typical 'Car Magazine' articles & reviews, as these are often very biased due to the nature of a magazines advertising/profit policies.
But the sites that are NOT driven by profitible advertisers (ie; the government sites & data research sites) & the consumer advocate sites are the ones that give you a much more accurate depiction of an auto manufacturer.

A relative's '03 Camry has been a huge lemon. The "check engine light" keeps coming on and none of the dealers can fix it. Now the elevator in the window has gone out.
He purchased it new but the problems started occurring after the warranty expired.
But I'm sure it's an isolated case.
I'm more partial to Hondas anyways.

toyota in general, are very reliable. Sure, there are a few lemon toyotas, but I think those are just a small percentage of all the toyotas on the road in the world.

I worked at a Toyota Dealer for a long time and I can tell you that Toyota's are amazing vehicles especially if you have them serviced on a regular basis. I have a 97 Tacoma with over 300,000 miles on it

Nope, my dad had a toyota truck. You know one of the small ones it's got over 300,000 miles on it and it's still running! By the way i am not exagerating. Nissan is very similar to toyota and i think is just as good.

I know two people who had EXTREMELY bad luck with Camry. It's not exactly my personal view but I still feel that Honda - despite recent decline in quality and non-existing customer service (i.e. it simpy sucks!), their cars are still superior to those from Toyota. With trucks, it's a different story - nobody can even come close to Toyota.

37 PLUS YEARS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR BUSINESS AND THE TOYOTA VEHICLES ARE PRETTY DOG GONE GOOD AS LONG AS YOU KEEP UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE THAT IS REQUIRED.
GOOD LUCK AND GOOD CHOICE.
