I have been there twice and what I recommend is that you go and walk around during the daytime to see the square. Late rin the afternoon I would then go and park yourself at a bar in the square, maybe like Fridays, and watch everything from there. It is so crowded and you cannot drink in the square. It is sorta fun, but afterwards I was just wishing I was sitting on a comfy bar stool wathcing the whole thing in warmth!

Have fun though, NYC is a great city and a wonderful place to be during the holidays!!

I personally have not done it, and I have no desire to. From what I hear, you have to get out there very early, and you're kind of "locked in" to the spot you pick. It's crowded, it's cold, and it's windy. Sure, it has to be kind of awesome to be among over a million people all participating in the same activity, but my feeling is that this particular experience is overrated.

I do enjoy walking around Times Square, and if you want to just walk around there maybe earlier in the day, or the day before, go right ahead. It's a fun place.

If you're one to party, find a bar or restaurant or some place like that, and hang out there. If you know people in the city, maybe have a party there.

My favorite way to do it is to be at home, nice and warm, watch it on TV, then get me some sleep as I laugh at all the people who will still take a few hours to get home in 20-degree "heat." It'll take them at least an hour just to leave Times Square.

If you feel that you can deal with the hassles of it, then you just might enjoy it. But if you're a bit leery about being stuck in one place for hours in the cold, packed in, then I don't recommend it.

Everybody needs to do this once but, Dress warmly, and do not drink anything before hand or during Very important. Once the ball drops you are at least a half hour from anyplace where you can go to the bathroom It is also very crowded so you get pushed around a bit. MAny ladies get groped by dirtbags, Watch out for the pick pockets. Watch out for the heavy drinkers, they may discharge puke or whatever on you Easy to get seperated from your friends. The subways are absolutely packed after. Your feet are frozen and unless you are over 6 .5 feet tall you really dont see anything.
But you dont want to be 40 and have to lie about being there when you weren't ever.

HIT THE BATHROOM EARLY if you are going to do this!

It's fun because you're around all these people just as happy (maybe a bit TOO happy! lol) as they cheer the ball drop. But then again, if it is a freezing day....it STINKS out there! Especially if you do feel the urge to go to the bathroom and have to make your way through the tons of people hanging out. I've heard of cases where people literally "peed" in their pants!

And then once the ball drops...everyone leaves.

Did it once.....ever since, I just stick to watching Dick Clark's New Years Rockin' Eve at a party. :)

If you don't mind the cold and crowd, it will be fun. If you have the opportunity, go early (dress warm and use the restroom beforehand) with a buddy and try to enjoy it so you can aleast say you were there.

It seems too crowded. I never went. I usually get drunk at a bar 2 Aves. west and 2 blocks south. (Holland Bar, 9th Ave by 40th, probably the cheapest bar in the area).
