Actually, it's fornication....and the source is the Bible. Clearly states the fornicators, murderers and homosexuals will not enter heaven.

you have, in effect excommunicated yourself. You are in the state of Mortal sin. You practice fornication without the sanctity of the marriage sacrament. You also cause a scandal and undermine the rules of the Church. If this is known within your Church and they still give you Communion, your Pastor is committing a grave sin as well if he knows this.

If you do not believe me go to www.ewtn.com and ask under the faith column there they have a question and answer forum

it's EWTN so you can't really say it is fact based:
http://www.ewtn.com/library/BISHOPS/LVNGTGTH.HTM (i didn;t really bother to read it, just googled)

But honestly there really is no set "consequences" it is the individual priest or bishop or your determination.

I lived with my ex husband before we were married and we were still allowed to be married in the Church, receive communion, and be full participants. Some places will try to withhold communion from you, but really according to canon law they can't.

We are to remeber the Catechism teachings are the ideals we are suppose to strive for and being human often will fail. they are the perfect image of the ideal Christian and when people are unable to live up to it we are suppose to treat them with love, understanding, kindness and be nonjudgemental. Unlike the person above me who took the name St Francis. That is not what St Francis would say or how he would act.

Sin apart, if you've lived together long enough then you're married under the civil law. The church may or may not recognize it but you are married for all intensive purposes. This may or may not mean that you were living in sin until you were considered legally married, I'd say that you weren't.

If you mean living together in a sexual relationship and not being married, that is "Fornication" and a mortal sin. PERIOD! If you're a Catholic and you can't figure that out, then I feel sorry for you

"Common Law" is a legal term, not a religious one.

The site you are looking for is Exodus 20. Just how much do you love God, and how far are you willing to go to justify your sin?

"Thou shalt not commit adultery."

Your consequence will be that of being catholic, if you haven't accepted Christ as your LORD and SAVIOR.

since there is sex between a man and a woman who aren't married to each other, that's adultery.
