None of the other candidate's religions are an issue why is this? I understand the LDS church is different, but I don't think anything they practice is offensive, or strange. It is a FACT that Mormons do not practice pologamy.

Now I'm not asking if you like him or not- I don't care. I'm not even voting for him, I just want to know why its such a big deal. It's a free country right? I feel like if it was any other religion that was being persectuted it would be unacceptable.

Go to this link about pologamy and what the church said about it: http://www.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2588eb644ad72110VgnVCM100000176f620aRCRD&vgnextchannel=3e0511154963d010VgnVCM1000004e94610aRCRD

Also- if you give me reasons please use facts, and not rumors that you have heard about this church. I'm just curious know what the big deal is and what everyone thinks. Thanks!

People love to dwell in ignorance. It's just more fun to them. And people don't like Mormons because it forces them to question their own beliefs, and they don't wanna do that.

*edit* dancingvt, I believe the questioner asked for facts, not made up things you heard.

His religion really isn't an issue when it comes to whether he'd be a good president or not.

His political opponents are making a big deal out of it because they hope it is an issue with voters. Romney isn't the first to experience this --- anyone with a religious belief undergoes this when they step into the political arena. If a candidate doesn't have a religion, he'll be smeared in other ways. It's nothing more than a dirty tactic designed to influence voters.

Now, if you have questions regarding the validity of the Mormon religion --- that's another matter. I could fill this column with facts disputing their beliefs, but I'll limit myself to answering your primary question.

do not ignore the conservatives... they say the main appropriate comparable issues approximately Mitt Romney's mormon faith, too (and whilst east meets west, you be responsive to its real!) They the two in no way point out Harry's church club.... because of the fact Harry isn't working for the main efficient workplace interior the U. S., it rather is why. Mitt is.

I just think people are paranoid. Mormons are different…yes…but instead of trying to understand or learning to agree to disagree…they make up stories…some half truths and some out right lies…in the hopes that it will discredit a Mormon in all facets of life.

Dancing…fact not rumors. Your post was nothing short of regurgitated lies. You should look into that.

Starry Girl…First…The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints no longer practices plural marriage. Second…God have Cain the Mark (dark skin) to save Cain’s life. So that people would know they would have the wrath of God fall upon them if they harmed Cain or his family. Why would anyone have a problem with this??

Flower…Hun…you and so many others are just paranoid. Sad really.

Mitt Romney is a huge flip-flopper, for one thing. Even more so than John Kerry. For another, the main purpose of Mormons being in politics is CONTROL. If you have read anything about their history and the plans for their "church," you would know that their intent is to control the U.S. and create "Zion" out of America. Theologians consider Mormonism a major cult, therefore anyone who belongs to a cult shouldn't be voted for, just for that one reason. They can't be trusted. Sorry, but those are facts.

God bless!

You know how people treat and talk to people bad by degrading or insulting them or accuse people of doing things wrong that they are actually doing them self's, the reason is because they are miserable them self's.

And that's the only way they fell better. Which is really sad. They don't even try to know the facts of a person or what good it might bring.

Just my sincere opinion.

People don't understand the LDS faith for one the thing. Therefore, they only go by what they have heard. Second, people are afraid of the unknown. But, I know quite a few Mormons. They are really hard working people. I'd vote him whether LDS or not, If I thought he was right for the job. After all, being president isn't a platform for a four year sermon.

On the other hand, I don't see why people like him JUST because he's "the most religious" of the candidates and presumably the most moral. I think he sounds like too much of a jackass on his commercials - "we republicans need to stop acting like democrats"

It should'nt be an issue. I hardly think that the President's I have voted for in the past have been of righteous character. His political views, on the other hand, are very important.

I think because people know what the agenda is of the Mormon Church if they are wise at all. They know that they would give as many contracts to Mormon business as they could and promote Mormons every chance they got. I live in a town with a Mormon in a high place of authority and he is just now being found out for doing this and is in the process of being replaced.

This is a great question and I completely agree with you! I think it is ridiculous that there is so much focus on his religion and not his view on issues, which is what really matters. He said something I thought was good. It was something like "I am not a mormon running for President of the United States, I am an American running for President of the United States." People need to open their eyes.
