I guess i am a dummy. I found my dress last year Feb. Mar.. And well i fell in love with it and bought it. I was heavier at the time, and have since lost 25 pounds, and continuing to lose weight, and my wedding is not until next october.
This Sunday i plan on having a seamstress look at the dress to tell me whether or not they are able to take it in. But if they cant, do you think Davids bridal will except an exchange for a smaller dress?? I know that they still sell the dress at the store, because i tried it on last Saturday when looking for bridesmaid dresses. I called to ask, and they said they will probably have to get a managers approval and make sure the dress is still resaleable... I dont want a different dress, i just want a smaller size... Has anyone had experience with this, or have any advice to give?

If you go to a seamstress that knows what she's doing, she can definitely take it in.

I don't think they will let your exchange it, especially since you bought back in Feb-march.

If you're not getting married until next October, I wouldn't do anything with the dress right now. You may loose more weight or even gain some back. I'd wait until the summer to change anything.

Dresses are not returnable and at David's hahahahh, they are horrible after the sale. I doubt you will have any luck. I say try to sell it to get back some of your money. Either on Ebay or Craigslist. I really really doubt David's will take it back. I have been a maid three times and a bride and dealing with that place was horrible. Good luck, but I say again try to sell it and wait until closer to the wedding date to buy a dress that fits.

If you caanot take it back to DAvid's Bridal, I wouls sell it on e bay or to a second hand store. But any good seamtress can take it in without too much trouble. Congrats on the wedding and weight loss!

They shoould be able to. If the dress hasent really been worn, and is in the same condition you purvhased it in. I had a friend who gained weight because of stress and all, and she exchanged hers for a larger size. I beleive it was a davids bridal too.

if the manager will approve it... what they mean by resellable is if it's not dirty or altered. they are just covering themselves
they probly won't exhange/return it because of how long you have had it.
i think you should speak to several seamstresses and get more than 1 opinion (unless #1 says yes it can be done)

congrats on shedding those unwanted lbs!
i'm trying to do the same now for my wedding

If they still sell it and it is resellable, they will probably take it back. But if your wedding isn't until October, are you going to lose more weight and have to do this all again? You may want to see if you can exchange it in for a store credit and then get the dress that fits you closer to your date.

Wedding dresses are not returnable.

It says so on David's Bridal website and policy.

All bridal stores do not take returns or exchange wedding gowns unless it's at fault of their part.

You best bet it to have it altered or to try to re-sell it on ebay, craigslist or a consigment shop.

Good luck

It wont hurt to ask. If not, you may find that alterations could be more expensive then a new dress, or not. Best of luck to you, and congrats on losing weight!

That's a lovely dress, I do hope they can either take it in or that the store will take it back. We do not have David's Bridal in the UK so I cannot say whether they will or not, but wanted to wish you luck with it and your wedding!
