Take her to the vet

Any time you bring a stray into your home the first thing you should do is take it to the vet for shots, flea meds and to make an appointment for spaying/neutering. The vet can also identify any health problems behind her reluctance to eat or drink. Owning a cat is a big responsibility.

It's possible the stray is not accustomed to being indoors. She'll probably start eating and drinking when she feels more comfortable in your house. Don't try to force her to do anything and give her plenty of time and lots of space. She'll probably settle in after a few days and start acting like a normal cat. You might also want to try canned food if you're giving her dry food. Stray cats sometimes don't realize that dry food is food. Try something really smelly like a tuna-based cat food. That usually gets their attention.

Good luck!

I would start by taking her to the vet. Try to bring a stool sample with you. She may have worms. You may want to have her checked for fleas as well. If you plan on keeping her, have her spayed. If not, please take her to a no kill shelter so she can find a good home. Just remember, initially it may be a bit expensive to get her fixed up, but if she is that sweet, it would definately be worth it!

As far as her eating, put out plenty of food and keep her water fresh. Show her where it is. Maybe put it somewhat near her litter, or put it in a bathroom or somewhere she can have some privacy to eat. Try putting out some moist food. She may be hurting and the hard food is too hard.

Good luck! Enjoy her!

I would take the cat immediately to the vet. All my cats are strays and what you described doesn't sound like anything I've previously experienced. You don't know if someone tried to harm or poison the cat so I would make an appointment to see someone right away!

For any number of reasons a vet visit would be a good idea. In the meantime keep an eye on litter box usage. She might not be eating or drinking while she's with you, but if it's going in it will come out. If she's not taking anything in she will need a vet!

Ordinarily I would say don't worry about it, since the kitty's just getting used to a new home.

But since she is curling up in your lap, it can't be new house jitters. Take her for a check-up and make sure she's not sick. And try getting kitten chow or a can or two of some special high-calorie, high-nutrition food to see if she will eat it.

Good luck!

call your local SPCA or animal shelter first (who ever takes the strays) check to see if somebody has filed a LOST CAT report.. and if not make sure you file a FOUND CAT report - or infact you can be changed with theft...

she could be sick or have bad teeth...
NEVER offer a cat milk - only water.. kitten food will fatten her up but will be too rich for long term..

if nobody reports her missing and you want to keep her - make sure you take her to the vet...

you should go to the vet or get the cat to a rescue where they can give her medical attention. she may have worms. is her stomach bloated or does she seem to be in pain when you lightly squeeze the belly?

in the meantime try some soft food or even a little tuna ( in wanter - not oil).

Are you sure she hasn't eaten? Some kitties don't like having people watch them do anything. (had a kitty who would NOT poop with someone in the room with him)
Leave bowls of food and water. Kitty will eat when she's hungry.

If you are willing to give the cat a home you need to take him/her to the vet immediately. If you are not willing to keep it contact your local animal rescues to take the cat from you. Good luck!
