I think the question should be: Why do Jews hate Muslims?
I would say, maybe because of the rivalry that was mentioned by some of the posters here!
In reality, Islam has been fair to Jews since the beginning. When Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) arrived in Medina, he made a pact of mutual respect and help with all the citizens of the city, including the Jews. Unfortunately, some of the Jewish tribes in Medina broke their promises one after the other, and that's why there were light and severe punishments. Further in history, one notes that there have always been Jewish minorities living in peace on the side of Muslims. Spain under the rule of Muslims is a good example. There were Jewish thinkers, academics, doctors, even statesmen in the Muslim state. Immediately when the Catholics took over Spain, it was the famous Inquisition! Jews had to flee away, and guess where? To Muslim countries!! Would anyone flee to the land of enemies?? In reality hate was for a long time an official policy of Christians against the Jews. That explains the situation of Jews in Europe for a long time.
Now let's have a look at some of the ideas posted in this thread:
- The rivalry thing.
Who would be really upset with the other? When Prophet Muhammad arrived in Medina there were various Jewish tribes. Why did they go to Arabia in the first place? They wouldn't exchange the weather and fertility of Syria or Iraq for the harsh conditions of Arabia. The reason as it was mentioned in some historical sources, is that they were expecting a Prophet to appear in Medina, and they thought he would come from their own people. When he appeared among Arabs, envy ate their hearts and they started hostilities against him, including at least one assassination attempt. Despite all of that, Muslims treated them as other citizens and that's how they prospered under the Muslim rule for many centuries.
- The story of Ishmael. I have to clarify something. Ishmael is NOT the father of all Arabs, just part of them. Second, Muslims are not all Arabs. In fact, Arabs form less than 20% of the Muslim population in the world. Furthermore, Islam never emphasizes race-related issues, but it rather repeats that all people are equal whether Arabs, Persians, or Africans etc. So there is not really any reason for Muslims to hate Jews for the sake of an ancient story. Those who promote this impression are actually non-Muslims, maybe Jews who are still living in the age of a racist, tribal God who preferred them to the rest of the world and insisted on preferring them despite everything.
If there is any animosity, it's actually the result of a very recent situation, that is, the situation in Palestine. The Jewish migration to Palestine was prompted by Zionism, which is a Jewish nationalist movement led by non-religious Jews, some of them didn't even believe in God! This movement appeared in the 19th Century and for a long time, many Orthodox Jews were totally against it because it was promoting the "return" to Palestine BEFORE the appearance of the long-awaited Messiah. When the Arabs saw waves of Zionist immigrants invading Palestine, they reacted, sometimes in a violent way. That's one of the reasons why there are strong sentiments against Jews in the Muslim world nowadays. If this problem had not existed, we wouldn't see these strong sentiments. So the reason is not really religious but it's political. You can add to this that those who are acting against the Zionsts are not only Muslim. There are factions in the PLO who were communist, secular, even Christian Arabs. What united them against Zionism is not Islam, but politics.
Peace/salaam.

Hmm...
Actually, according to history, the Jewish are the most cleverest people on Earth. You people know humans strengths and weaknesses.
But due to some historic events, the Jews had made use of human weaknesses to fully crack the brains of other people, especially the Muslim people where we really do not support sin-related behaviors.
But really, as a Muslim myself, I guess one thing for sure everyone has to do is to respect one another. Religion is a much more sensitive thing to speak about than race (since I believed race is nothing actually, only differentiating skin colours and region we came from).

They believe everything from Isaac's descendants on down are heretics. Clearly, this is blasphemous talk. That brings into question about why God would choose a false branch to build on with Noah and others earlier. No, they are prophets. Islam formed at a time when entering those countries to spread the Word of God was punishable by death. This prevented many from considering the trip. In the absence of going around, Muhammed must have felt that if it was a true religion (let's stick with OT for now), they would overcome their fear. This was enough motivation to capitalize on. It spread like wildfire. Jews were already misunderstood for their beliefs. Why not call their beliefs wrong, adjust the lineage emphasis, and throw out this Jesus guy all together? Jesus was not supportive of Arabian countries' policies. This furthered resentment. If the God of Moses is the God of Jonah, then I recommend you learn about Jesus more. I don't mean give up your faith. It's a rich and beautiful religion. Ask yourself with real conviction why should Jesus not be Christ? It will lead you to a door. On the other side is a series leading to real understanding of the 3.

i'm muslim... and erm, shouldn't muslims be answering this thread (referring to Picky here -.-')?
i think it has a lot more to do with the palestinian/israeli issue than anything else. despite what islamic fundamentalists want you to believe, the majority of muslims (like the majority of christians or jews or what have you) today aren't all that religious, but i think a sense of nationalism or 'religious affinity' runs deep simply because of the ongoing war and displacement than a borne-hatred for the jewish people. although it's true that not all jews are israeli's or zionists, and even if they are they do not necessarily support the actions of the army, etc. but it's sort of like the "all muslims are terrorists" argument isnt it? you find something a couple of people do wrong, and the whole group is to blame. i don't really understand that mentality either. i'd also bring to your attention that not all muslims think the same way - check out muslim wakeup's "hug a jew" ~ http://www.muslimwakeup.com/main/archives/hug_a_jew/index.php

First, not all Muslims hate Jews. Generalizations get people into wars. Muslims are people just like you and I. They get up every morning, get dressed, get the kids to school, wonder what's for dinner, etc. Many pray that they'll all still be alive for dinner. The Muslim faith comes forth from Christianity, which comes forth from Judaism. We are all related through our religions. Brothers and sisters, so to speak.
The problem with Israel is that both sides have a claim on the land. It is Holy to both. Therefore a compromise needs to be worked out - hopefully a peaceful one, so that both "sides" can care for their sacred land together.

The things that I tend to get after communicating to Muslims is that they do not recognize God's placement of the Jewish people. Zechariah 14 and other Old Testament scripture does not seem to apply to them. They are jealous over the land that the Jews occupy, and seem to think that whatever their teachers say is "Gospel" truth. They are quickly caught up in whatever their teachers want them to believe, and that usually includes activism against Jews.
So what to do about that? They say they believe in the Torah, but apply anything from it in bastardized ways, they say they believe in JESUS CHRIST ( they will even use the word 'Christ' ), but they don't believe a word he said.
What can anyone do but hope that if the truth is stated, they will be one of the few who will understand it and be drawn to it?
I think that with the majority of Muslims, logic is not what they respond to. They are brainwashed if there ever was a brainwashing to have, into thinking with their Imams, and will rationalize anything they do with what a teacher says. This makes reason far from them. So don't try to reason with them, only state the truth and hope they will see it.

If you're a Westerner asking this question of other Westerners you will get a biased response because Westerners do not understand Middle Eastern thinking. Conversely, Middle Easterners do not understand Western thinking aside from Capitalism.
So, to truly get a response to your question, you should seek out an Iman and a Rabbi, have some food and drink and discuss your questions with them. They may be able to give you the answers you seek. Although, you may not like the answers, at least you'll be enlightened. Good Luck!

My hubby & kids are Muslim.
We have some very good friends who are Orthodox Jews.
We have a good time together. We talk about our kids, compare notes on fasting, discuss religion, the news, whatever's going on.
No problems. No hate.

Dear buddy, I reproduce few facts about you......as to what Mohammad thought about the Jews....
what historians recorded about the Muslim's behaviour towards the Jews and the Quran itself.
MOHAMMAD's views and his behavior..........[recorded in History].............
*"When the bier of anyone passes by you, whether Jew, Christian, or Muslim, rise to your feet."--Mohammad
" He himself [the prophet] gave letters of security and protection to the JEWS and Christians in Arabia and never used any violence to them upon the account of religion."--[ An Account of The Rise And Progress of Mahometanism with the life of Mahomet- by HENRY STUBBE, M.A. of Christ Church- Oxford, From a manuscript copied by Charles Hornby of Pipe office in 1705, London,Luzac & Co. 1911,
pg- 142-143]
".......A spirit of freedom allowed Jews, Christians, and Muslim to work side by side..." - Francis Ghiles, "What is Wrong With Muslim Science" Nature, 24 March 1983.
The Prophet had a document drawn up in which he
stipulated that Jews and Christians "shall be protected from all insults and vexations; they shall have an equal right with our own people to our assistance and good offices," and furthermore, that they shall "practice their religion as freely as the Muslims"(Quoted in the World's religions by Huston Smith, Harper Collins, 1991, p256)
Now what Quran says.........
Those who believe, those who are Jews, Christians, and Sabaeans, all who believe in God and the Last Day and act rightly will have their reward with their Lord. They will feel no fear and will know no sorrow. (Qur'an, 2:62)
It is all misconceptions about Islam which you have been born with. However if you do your own study of history, you will; come to know the truth.
The conflict between Muslims and Jews is more political than regious.
Hope you try to understand and DO YOUR PART TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO OF US.
InshaAllah, one day........
