You will get what you pay for! Stay away from the cheapies in brand names you've never heard of before in TVs, like Ilo, Element, Maxent, Dynex, Insignia, Vizio, and Olevia, and from those TV brands you associate with cameras and dishwashers, like Polaroid, Westinghouse, and RCA. Not only will you suffer somewhat in picture quality, but in reliability and ability to obtain parts and service, both in and out of warranty.
If I had to get one of the cheap "third tier" LCDs, I'd go with Olevia and then Vizio. But save grief and stay with a quality, reliable, name brand like Panasonic, Toshiba, and Sony. Probably you best bang for the buck today is the Toshiba Regza 26" 720p HDTV LCD (36HL67) which will range in price from about $600-$750, depending on where you buy it, or the Panasonic 26" 720p HDTV LCD (TC-26LX70) for just a couple of dollars more. Sony is very good, but more expensive . Good hunting.
