Hell, I'll add my two cents.
Your ma might already have wines picked out to go with the meal, so it might be a waste of time to try to bring wine to go with the meal, unless that is what she asked you to do.
I almost always serve a pinot noir with thanksgiving dinner (usually Burgundy, any premier or grand cru works). Burgundy is the best with the roasted turkey and gravy flavours, IMO. I will often serve a chardonnay as well, for those that prefer white.
But if you are not bringing wine specifically to go with the meal, champagne works well as a hostess gift. Even some non-drinkers will pop a bottle of bubbly now and then. And since this is your mom, you may know what kind of wine she likes, and just bring her something you know she will enjoy and/or appreciate.

The best recommendation I have for a Thanksgiving dinner wine is Beaujolais Nouveau. This is a very young wine that would go great with your dinner. It is released once a year around November 15. Since this is a young wine, white meat will go great with it.

If you are having turkey, its a white meat ,so white wine would be correct. Get a variety of dry, semi dry and semi sweet. A nice dessert sweet wine would also go great with the pies. If you want even more variety you can get by with pink, like Zinfindel, Rose or Blush. While people may like red wine its really only correct to serve with red meat like beef. A good champagne is always proper for the Thanksgivng toasts.

For white - Gewurztraminer
For Red - Pinot Noir
You want a dry, light body wine. I prefer Pinot Noir with turkey dinner.

Ecco Domani makes an excellent Merlot which would be a nice full aroma flavor for bigger meals and pairs nicely with most holiday desserts. They also make a good pinot gricio as well. I think this wine is a good choice and you will not be disappointed. Plus its under $10.00 a bottle.

There are some nice wines out there with a hint of cranberry. Try going to North Ridge Winery in Vermont. ( I'm sure you can google it. ) They have an apple cranberry wine that is really good and different and they do have mail order.

Personally, I would take a good sweet wine. Moscato is very tasty and low in alcohol content. It would be great after you eat just to sip on. Tastes great!
