Carbon offset schemes typically reward carbon allowances for carbon sequestration. However, some proposed carbon sequestration techniques involve dumping huge amounts of chemicals and/or genetically engineered organisms into our oceans. For example, America's Climate Security Act of 2007 would not only establish a carbon offset program, but would also provide, under Subtitle F, "Bonus Allowances for Carbon Capture and Geological Sequestration," which could lead to investors literally making a "killing" off our oceans.

Here are some links providing additional information about lucrative plans to use the oceans as a waste dump in the name of fighting global warming:

Currently the scheme of providing carbon credits to countries have perverse and unintended consequences.

Forests are being plowed down so countries can get foreign government aid to plant new trees.

China is producing more CO2 to get aid for reduce CO2.

World wide destruction can be found because science does not have a clue on what the problem really is and how to solve it. And politicians are all to happy to take money from one person to give to others to make them feel more important.

I don't know how much more "help" the planet can take from well intentioned, but clueless environmentalist and politicians.

There is no institution checking all the offsets in the US.
In countries part of the Kyoto on the contrary, there is an intensive reviewing process.

The quality of offsets from the US can be really low and projects can be hot air in some cases without any contribution to climate protection.

Make sure all offsets are verified by a standard such as "the gold standard" from the World Wildlife Fund for Nature.

Like this one?

If I was want to throw my money at GREEN I think I would put it toward stock in GREEN companies directly, and make sure they are actually engaged in R and D or production of the Alternative energies and products you would have.
Something positive. This way you can control the intent of your money.

If you give it to one of these Carbon offset carpetbaggers who claims to do this on your behalf you can just as easily flush your money down the toilet and get similar results.

If anybody gave me an offset as a latest, i could be fairly upset with the help of the theory. Sorry, I very nearly forgot to indicate that it extremely is amazingly probable a rip-off given which you have not have been given any information that the acquisition of pronounced "offsets" will outcome in anybody preserving ability on behalf of the "offset". Like one in all the different solutions pronounced, the guy or entity it extremely is meant to make themselves extra efficent ought to basically be wasteful someplace else to "offset your offset".

Should any of us be rewarded for dumping our chemicals in the oceans? No, we are commiting genocide on species, why get a cookie for it.

Water rolls downhill and groundwater joins it as the water heads to the oceans where it circulates the world. On the way to the oceans we have cities pulling water out and using it before cleaning it for release. You, me, crack heads, crystal meth users, cocaine, vioxx, prozac, cancer drugs and much more use a toilet and the waste goes for sewage treatment before releasing the water for use downstream.

We use it to water our food, livestock and in the ocean marine life is affected by what we dump. Did you know Canada uses 110 million pounds of pesticides a year. Is the US using 10 times that much? What about China and the rest of the world?

We are the consumers of these products, what are you doing to ensure you aren't putting trace chemicals that could be poisoning your own family in our water?

I want natural products inside me, not other people's toxins. We need to educate our young people, not sell them out for more stuff.
